Top 10 Best Jim Carrey Movies

Updated on March 23, 2012

Jim Carrey is one of the most praised comedians in the movie industry. I myself think him as one of the greatest comedians. Yes, it is true that there are many people out there who do not think the same way. But I personally feel that he is best at what he does and that’s the main thing. Not everybody can act like Al Pacino, right? In the same way I am sure, no one can act like Jim Carrey. He has won 2 Golden Globe Awards, 38 other awards and 60 nominations for his outstanding performances, which speak evidently about his acting skills. He is one of a kind, and that is why I admire and appreciate him =)

So I compiled a list of my Top 10 Jim Carrey Movies for you, which are always a treat to watch. This movie list will contain his comedy movies and some from the contrasting genre. The list is arranged in descending order of my personal likings.

The most stupid duo on a road-trip to Aspen, with their empty brains.
The most stupid duo on a road-trip to Aspen, with their empty brains.

1. Dumb and Dumber:

There is no doubt that this movie is destined to be the #1 movie of any of the Best Jim Carrey Movies’ list. The movie got little of a strong plot and story, but still it easily manages to top the chart. Jim Carrey pairs up with Jeff Daniels and here forms the most stupid duo. The movie was released in 1994. It fetched 4 awards and 3 nominations. Jim Carrey also won the Best Comedic Performance in MTV Movie Awards 1995, for his phenomenal performance.

I am sure most of you out there have already watched this movie, but still if anyone missed this flick; count on me, watch this and you won’t regret. It can lighten your mood anytime you want.

The Famous B-E-A-Utiful

2. Bruce Almighty:

This movie is B-E-A-Utiful. It carries a lesson within which is too good to pass and some great rib-tickling comedy scenes. Jim Carrey essays the role of Bruce Nolan, an ever complaining guy, who is going through a rough patch in his life and blames that God can make his life good in 5 minutes but He isn’t interested at all. But what happens when God has had enough of Bruce’s complains? He gives all His powers to Bruce Nolan (Jim Carrey) as he thinks that he can run the world and solve the problems of people better than God does. The rest ….. ?? Well you can guess ;)

The movie was released in 2003 and won 7 awards & 7 other nominations. “IT’S GOOD, IT’S GOOD, IT’S GOOOOODDD”

3. Liar Liar:

At the time when Jim Carrey was out of the mainstream cinema, he came back with a bang titled “LIAR LIAR”. This movie was released in 1997 and won 4 awards & 5 other nominations. Jim Carrey essays the role of Fletcher Reede, a lawyer with no problems in blurting out lies and only aims for becoming a partner in his law firm. But things go wrong when his son, tired of his Dad’s lying routine, wishes that his father won’t be able to speak ANY sort of lie for 24 hours.

4. Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind:

If I would have been directing this movie, my mind would not have gone anywhere near in casting Jim Carrey for the lead role. But he justifies his selection with such an amazing performance that brought him many positive critics’ comments and numerous awards for best performing main lead.

In this movie, he pairs up with Kate Winslet, and after some quarrels the couple decides to undergo a new technological process to remove each other from their minds. But during the process they realize that what they are losing and where they had to begin with.

The movie was released in 2004 and won an OSCAR, 38 other awards and 50 nominations.

5. The Mask:

No one needs introduction of that, right? Even today many people recognize Jim Carrey as a person who was “THE MASK”. A simple bank clerk, Stanely Ipkiss (Jim Carrey) goes berserk and a maniac by wearing a mask of a naughty god. By acting in his own way, he created a trademark sort of thing from this movie.
The movie was released in 1994 and brought an OSCAR, 5 wins and 7 nominations. Its SsssSMOKINGGG!

6. Ace Ventura - Pet Detective:

This movie is a typical Jim Carrey movie. He goes with a flawless over-the-top acting, which is his main strength. With huge grinning teeth, a proud walk, a humorous accent and an unexplainable hairstyle; Jim Carrey essays the role of ACE VENTURA, a pet-detective, when a mascot goes missing before an important match. The film has its comedy scenes, and some of which are really good. If you are a Jim Carrey fan, then go for it and wait for the Slow-Motion scene. ;) That was spectacular and flawless

This movie was released in 1994, with 5 wins & 3 nominations under its banner.

7. The Truman Show:

I personally feel very good about this movie. It’s a dark drama/tragedy sort of movie - A movie about finding one’s own self and defying one’s fears.

Truman Burbank (Jim Carrey) finds out that his entire life is actually a TV show and all the things were a sort of script of that and he is LIVE; 24x7, all the time.

The movie will touch you if you let it. Try to feel the pain of the person and you will enjoy it. It is really well-directed too, and the screenplay was good too.

The movie was released in 1998 and was nominated for 3 OSCARS. It also won 29 awards and 34 nominations. It’s a must watch.

Both the leads have performed in numerous get-ups in the movie.

8. Fun with Dick and Jane:

This movie was released in 2005 and contains a lot of comedy scenes.

Dick Harper (Jim Carrey) loses his job after a promotion, a promotion which also induced Jane, his wife, to quit her job. Now the money is gone, they are in debt, the car is been sold, the T.V is gone and there is no money to pay the bills. Tired of the fact, Dick and Jane decides to step up in the hilarious way of crime to eek their way to progress. It’s a nice, decent watch when you got nothing to do. It’ll lighten up your mood as well.

9. Yes Man:

A guy named Carl (Jim Carrey) who is spending a boring life, turning down every opportunity that comes to his way, challenges him, after an event, to say YES to every opportunity whether he feels it to be good or bad. The film was released in 2008, won 2 awards & 7 nominations, and it also stars Bradley Cooper and Zooey Deschanel.

This film contains a good enough message of optimism and motivation and it is pretty much the story of my life :P

10. Me, Myself & Irene:

I would have slipped the movie from the list, but the movie has its comedy scenes, so here it is; surviving.

A nice guy cop, Charlie Baileygates (Jim Carrey), is suffering from a split personality disorder. The second personality (Hank Evans) is a naughty one and there it is where the fun begins. Moreover, the scenes with his 3 sons are much more spectacular.

This movie was released in 2000 and has won 2 awards and 4 nominations.

I hope you will enjoy these movies, there are many more out there too. If I missed your personal favorite in the list, feel free to specify in the comments section. It will be a pleasure for me to watch another awesome movie =)
