Austin has many legends to speak of and many venues of its past that have made it the music epicenter it has become. These legendary venues hosted many upcoming national and local talents, bringing in many cultural diversities and genres of all sorts to enrapture even the most die-hard of music fans. Many left a blueprint for the new musical venues to follow and a protective love and nostalgia embracing the old, that have withstood the test of time. Here is a list of some must see places to feast your eyes and ears on. Enjoy!


1.Threadgills

With two locations, the original located at 6416 North Lamar has Austin music history pouring out of its almost 80 years of existence. Booking local favorites of all genres at its two locations nearly every night of the week. www.threadgills.com

2. Continental Club

Since the 1950's, the Continental Club has surpassed the test of time, with its 50's styled original decor and hot rod ladened front parking lot. You will find local Honky Tonk favorites belting out true Texas sounds surely to make you feel like you have walked right into a time machine. www.continentalclub.com/Austin

3.Emos

If louder and harder is your scene and you feel like some alternative, Hip hop or Punk, Emos is the right bar for you. Legendary and Fully loaded with dirty wall art, graffiti and a colorful staff, Emo's is an experience worth the trip.

4. Antones

Legendary blues bar hosting local and legendary blues favorites with some of Austin's best new and old. www.antones.net

5. Stubbs

Good place If your hungry and in the mood for some down home Texas BBQ and good tunes. Stubbs houses a full venue outside and a small quaint setting on the inside. Road shows and local. www.stubbsaustin.com

6. Mohawk

More into the Indie/Alternative scene? Well, the newest of the venues, has a multileveled outside standing room only venue and upstairs V.I.P overlook with glorious views of the Austin skyline with lounge and bar. The indoor stage is a more cozy setting with a very rustic decor set for a mountain lodge, along with some interesting artwork of bearded men. www.mohawkaustin.com

7. The Broken Spoke

Take a Walk back in time to this legendary Country music bar and grill and find yourself boot scootin' on a large dance floor to the sounds of Texas music greats and experiencing some down home cooking. www.brokenspokesaloon.com

8. Elephant Room

Basement styled jazz and a cool dark setting for a romantic quiet evening. www.elephantroom.com

9. The Hole in the Wall

This legendary dive hosts local favorites and is located right on Austin's Drag. With an indoor stage and bar and outdoor bar and stage, Hole in the Wall lives up to its name with a cool Austin vibe. www.holeinthewallaustin.com/

10. T.C's Lounge

Located on the east side, this local legendary iconic venue has a unique cultural experience. A local Hot spot for Blues and good times. A.C free and in the summer your sure to be sweatin' off some pounds dancing to the rhythm and blending with the locals. So old school, it has no website!

It is merely impossible to name all of Austin's venues in to 10 top spots but, I assure you these are some that are a must. I have to mention a few others including Scoot Inn, Red Eyed Fly, Nutty Brown Cafe, The Hills Cafe,The Flamingo Cantina. These are just a few others to name that are worth their weight in musical gold and are also some top hang-outs here in the 'Live Music Capital of the World'.
