Top Rated Movie Recommendation Sites for Movie Night!

Are you having trouble picking the right movie? Maybe movie night is coming up and you want to find the perfect movie for the occasion that everyone will like...Let's face it, there are TONS of movies out there and sometimes making a decision on the right movie can be mind boggling and nerve racking. That is where these awesome movie recommendation sites can truly come in handy! No more wasting time on a movie that you hated.. these sites will help you pick out the best movie for you. These sites will find the best movies to suit your own personal tastes making it much less likely for you to pick the wrong movie for yourself or for your family on movie night. Members of Netflix have always been able to rate movies and this helps Netflix recommend other movies based on likes and dislikes but there are other sites other than Netflix now that are even more awesome and in depth. Compared to these great sites on the web, Netflix can be a bit vague and maybe not quite as accurate but don't get me wrong.. I love Netflix but I would like to share a few of these other great movie recommendation sites with you!

Criticker is a great movie recommendation site where you can create a free account and rank films on a score between 0-100. Criticker will make recommendations based on your rankings. What is cool about this site is that it not only helps you find movies that you are likely to enjoy, it is also a community with blogs and forums and it will help you connect with others who rank the same as you! Being able to interact in the community is a great way to network and meet new people with the same interests.

What is so awesome about TasteKid is how user friendly it is. I love the simple, clutter-free layout of the website. Just go in and create an account.. it's easy and free or you can connect with facebook. Once you have the account, you will have a taste profile which can be shared with others. Members likes, dislikes and favorites are shown in a live feed. What is cool about this place is not only does it recommend great movies for you, it also recommends music and books, too.. pretty awesome! Go have a taste ;0)

Movielens is a plain and simple site. They didn't put a whole lot into making it pop visually but it does have a great rating system. The account is free and you have a choice of whether or not you want to share your movie tags and ratings with other members. Basically you sign up and start rating. It has a great question and answer section where members can ask other members questions about movies. You have your own profile where others can see your ratings if you choose. All in all, it's easy to use and a great site to find some movies that you will probably enjoy.

How about trying out FilmAffinity where you can find your movie soulmates around the world-as it says on the site (I love this!) This is a place where you can go to rate movies, connect with others that share your common tastes and interests, make lists, find recommended movies and lots of other great stuff including movie awards information like Tribeca Film Festival, Sundance etc.. .. I have to say this site is JAM packed full of information. Once you sign up, it's recommended to start rating movies. You can "hook up" with your movie soulmates as soon as you have rated at least 10 movies.  This site may not be as pretty visually as some of the others but it's definitely a great site with lots of great information and I just love the idea of having movie soulmates :)

Jinni just may be the best site out there to help you in your search for that perfect movie.  It seems to be the majority's top rated movie recommendation site from my research on the net. It has great visual appeal and the site is easy to navigate. Most importantly, it seems to be the most in depth and accurate when it comes to finding movies that you are likely to enjoy.  I guess you could call it the "eHarmony" of online movie recommedation sites. You can select certain criteria such as plot, mood etc and can keep narrowing it down to those few perfect movies. Signing up is easy and once done you have your own profile page where you answer questions about what you like/dislike when it comes to genre and plots. It is comprehensive and thorough, yet easy to use. It's an interactive site where you click on one out of a collage of movies to help narrow down your search. There is also a community to interact with other members and tons of other stuff.  If you are into movies and looking for suggestions, Jinni seems to be the best one to deliver.. Go check it out!

More Suggestions:

A good friend told me about What To Rent? and I'm really glad he did. This is a really neat site. It's a little bit different than the other sites. First you get a user name/log in and answer some interesting questions in order to get an accurate idea of your personality. After that a couple questions on your current mood.. Then it will find a movie that is perfect for your personality type according to your current mood. Each time you go back to the site, with your personality info saved, you log in and answer a couple of questions about your current mood and then it will pick out the perfect movie for you. Since our perception does change depending on our moods (at least mine does), I can see why this may work so well. Apparently, the results are pretty accurate. They say the system works and they have the stats to prove it. Another plus about this site is the Android and IPhone Apps- making it convenient to pick that perfect movie while you are on the go or while you are pulling your hair out in the movie store trying to decide what movie to get. So what are you waiting for? Go check it out!

Suggestmemovie- This is another movie suggestion site you can try that will suggest movies for you and then you can watch the trailer to see if it's something you may like. You can also watch full length movies or the site will refer you to another place online where you can watch full length movies.

Like I said at the top, deciding which movie to watch can sometimes be frustrating and overwhelming.... considering the never ending amount of movies out there. Hopefully one, some or all of the sites can be of some help to you. In my opinion, they are some of the better and more accurate ones out there. By getting recommendations, you can at least feel a little more confident that it's the right movie for you OR you and the family.

Got the perfect movie? Now go grab the popcorn and have a great movie night!

Prasetio and KoffeeKlatch- Thanks to the both of you for reading my hub! I was surprised too that there were so many when my friend told me about these a while back. Needless to say, I thought it was a great idea for a hub. The jinni site is really impressive.. Thanks again to you both :)

Tried the first two movies I rented on Netflix on other sites to try and find similar movies.

Rubber - Quentin Dupieux directs this inventive twist on low-rent revenge flicks, which follows a car tire named Robert that rolls through the desert Southwest using its strange psychic powers to blow up birds, bunnies, human beings and more. But when Robert spies a gorgeous woman motoring down the highway, he decides to follow her and take a chance on love.

Kaboom - Lovelorn college student Smith (Thomas Dekker) spends his days hanging with his friend Stella (Haley Bennett) and his nights lusting after his straight roommate Thor (Chris Zylka), until one wild party shatters his world in this comic thriller from edgy director Gregg Araki. After eating drug-laced cookies, Smith witnesses the murder of an enigmatic woman who has haunted his dreams, and he begins a bizarre journey that will determine his future.

The results were

Taste Kid - Didn't Have

Movielens - Alice in Wonderland,The Waterboy,Charlie's Angels

Jinni - Mad Monster Party,Little Nicky,Van Wilder

The other sites don't give recommendations based on individual titles.
