Top Ten Electronic Music Videos 2013

Updated on April 5, 2021

2013 has just begun...

This should be an interesting year for both experienced and new artists. In 2012 we saw a lot of genre bending electronic dance...drum & bass, hip hop, new wave. This year I look forward to even more interesting collaborations with artists you might not expect. As the barriers to becoming a successful DJ begin to collapse thatnks to modern technology I think we will see Music Videos that really start to push the limits of what our sensory inputs can handle.

Your help in the comments section is greatly appreciated. If you see I've missed a new music video from this year please mention it in the comments section below. Just remember, it's not "best electronic artist/song" or "best music video" of the year... it's the delicate balance of both.

ALSO, please excuse me if this top ten looks a little sloppy I'm still working on it!

10) Skrillex (f. Ellie Goulding) - Summit

A beautiful collaboration by today's most interesting musical couple. Ellie Goulding comes from a more pop and signing oriented background while Sonny Moore (Skrillex) is best known for his dub step tracks. The two lovers make an incredible duo.

9) Dada Life - So Young So High

Okay so we all know by now that Dada Life never ceases to impress, entertain and stay true to the Dada movement. Without exception, naked Swedes. I see this video as evidence that the Swedish duo is starting to tap into their best work. They started their career making catchy but relatively shallow dance music. They are now starting to really add meaning and depth to their work and I believe their recent success is a reflection of that. I'll be watching them closely in the coming years as they continue to fulfill their true potential.

8) Diplo (f. Gent & Jawns) - Butter's Theme

Another fast paced production from the guy who brought you Pon de Floor (including the Beyonce rehash). Since Major Lazer, member Diplo has been very busy with a few projects, namely Mad Decent (his production company) and Potato Will Eat You (a collaboration with Skrillex and others). Gent & Jawns AKA Billy the Gent and Long Jawns, are two East Coast DJs that have a very innovative and distinct sound. The video features incredible editing techniques and excellent synching to the music.

7) Calvin Harris - I Need Your Love ft. Ellie Goulding

A very sexy video with the new perfect hot celebrity couple since Angelina and Brad, well, before the drama that is.The duo make incredible harmony and seem to look very cute together. And yes I do realize the irony of this video being in the same year hub as the Skrillex/Goulding collaboration.

6) Kaskade & Swanky Tunes (f. Lights) - No One Knows Who We Are

This is a really well composed piece. Kaskade loves to try new collaborations and I think has found a good synch with Swanky Tunes. Kaskade's style is unmistakable: dramatic and intense with a great build and beat drop in most of his hits. Swanky Tunes is a Russian trio of house DJs that have stayed under America's radar for quite some time. Lights is a young female Canadian singer with a beautiful voice and an affinity for electronic music. You may remember her from "Second Go" where she paints a house, how shall we say... ...artistically?!

5) Boys Noize - What You Want

Another all star heavy hitter from Alexander Ridha (AKA Boys Noize). Like many music videos in the past, Boys Noize continues to put together a complete theme for the hit singles. This video offers good blend of special effects and symbolism without going overboard on the production. It's simple and classic, reflecting on the Ego's never ending desire to be a superhero.

4) Alex Gaudino (f. Taboo) - "I Don't Wanna Dance" - Work It Kitty

Ok I must admit kittens do have a soft spot on my lap. I have definitely seen my fair share of cats doing these aerobic exercies in real life so I can verify this is not computer generated. This track comes from exerienced Italian DJ Alex Gaudino, the guy who brought us the unforgettable Destination Calabria back in 2007 (based on Destination Unknown a few years prior). You may recognize Taboo as one quarter of the Black Eyed Peas.

3) A-Trak & Tommy Trash - Tuna Melt

From the recent establishment of Potato Will Eat You (A Diplo, Skrillex, A-Trak collaboration) we have seen some very creative things. Featuring Australian artist Tommy Trash we get an upbeat and interesting new tune... therefore, I present to you an exciting new Rube Goldberg machine! This one accesses a possibly delicious but probably cold tuna melt hidden somewhere at the end of the video. Enjoy, the video not the cold sandwich!

2) Avicii vs. Nicky Romero - I Could Be The One

Avicii got his recognition with "Levels" not too far back while Nicky Romero became famous more recently with "Toulouse" (a city in Southern France). Both artists pulled these hits off in their early 20's and are just beginning their path to Electronic stardom. This track is tear-jerking and motivational, encouraging you to live the life you really want.

1) Zedd (f. Foxes) - Clarity

Zedd is an young prodigy Russian composer who has been classically trained on
