Netflix Has Classic Cartoons

Before my son came into my life I really did not spend much money. I would not get cable, buy a cell phone, or join Netflix. Yes, I was practicing my own type of fiscal conservatism. Now I have cable, a cell phone, and Netflix. Yes, I am being my Liberal self.

Though I have been disabled for years I refused to buy a cell phone. I have a transportation service -- here in New York -- called Access - A - Ride, and I really could use a cell phone to call the company when my bus would be very late. I have been left for hours waiting for a service more than once, so I knew I had to get one, because my child would almost always be traveling with me. So, I had to get a cell phone.

I ordered cable for the variety of entertainment choices I could choose for my child. So why Netflix? Well, one of the reasons is because, about two years ago my son seem bored with everything on cable that he seen, and he could not relate to some of the cartoons that were for older children. One day I received one of those notices from Netflix in my in-box, and decided to check it out online.

I went for the maximum coverage, which is eight at a time for $60.00 a month. Yes, that is steep, but we really do not go out to the movies, because of it, and I can order new movies for us -- once they come on DVD -- as well as classics.

There is no late fees. Thank God, because I would like my son to see them as much as possible before I send them back.

STREAMING MOVIES:

With the package I have, with Netflix, I can also watch movies instantly to my computer. I do not have Play Station so I cannot have it come to my TV set yet. I do have Wii now ....

I take my Netflix movies with me on vacation all the time. It is the greatest thing for my son, nieces, and my nephews who loved watching The Backyardigans.

Last year I had The Looney-Toons -- with Bugs Bunny -- Collections, and my sister and I watch along with the kids.

Yes, I love Netflix, because it helped me entertain my bored son when he tired of everything else ....

Thank you.

Hey Tawna,

You know I never really thought about how much cheaper Netflix is compare to cable, but you are correct of course. It is way cheaper than cable.

Still, my phone, internet, and cable are all bundled into one package deal, which is why I really cannot quit it. LOL.

My 7 year old son is a big fan of Star Wars, because of cable -- Spike TV -- and Netflix's DVDs. LOL.

The last 7 year old Star Wars fan I knew was my baby brother when it first came out in the '70s. LOL. He is now a doctor. LOL. Here's hoping for my son. LOL.

My son is now into Star Wars: The Clone Wars series. So I order the DVDs from Netflix now. LOL.

Thank you so much for your comments.

Take Care,

N.E.

We got rid of cable because of netflx. We have our ocmputer hooked up to the TV and now no extra TV bill! the netflix bill is minimal, we love netflix! Besides all the cartoon channels play the same cartoons over and over. I had no idea that there were so many dragon tale cartoons because PBS only shows about a dozen of them! I think there are 94 episodes!

Hello Pamela,

Video stores just seem to be obsolete now a days. I do not see them at all any longer in my neighborhood.

You are right about the prices, and -- like you -- I love that there is no late fees to worry about.

I pay the maximum. I receive streaming on my computer, and TV through our Wii console. Though to be honest I have not set the Wii -- console -- up yet. LOL.

I wish you luck with Netflix.

Thank you for your kind comments.

Take Care,

N.E.

The Video stores are closing here. So I am probably going to give Netflix a shot. Their prices are great and not having to worry about late fees is a big plus. We all have to save wherever we can these days. Nice Hub.

Hey Katharella,

I have way to much stuff for my son. LOL. It is also great when my niece and nephews come over for a day or sleep overs. LOL. This way they can share in all the things I have ordered for him to watch.

When you mentioned Blu-ray and 3D TV I exclaimed. LOL. Thinking yeah, that would be cool to get. LOL. When I can afford it. LOL.

Coraline was great. My son did not get into it until I watched it with him. LOL.

No, I never saw the movies you watched as a child, but I have heard of them.

I use to watch the re-runs of I Love Lucy when I was a child. I loved it.

I had recently ordered the Little Rascals for me son to watch. Okay I watched it too. Wow, they were great to see. They were a lot better than I remembered.

I have been watching the U.S. Presidents on streaming lately. I have ordered Teddy Roosevelt; The American Lion some time ago. What a great watch. I totally enjoyed it.

My son will get a kick out of watching National Geographic with me. I will see about dinosaurs, because that is all he likes to talk about. Oh, and Star Wars, and Spider Man. LOL.

It is great to have a Netflix friend. LOL.

Thanks for your very welcomed comments.

Take Care,

N.E.

I don't know if you're old enough to remember the old saga Dark Shadows or not lol, it was popular when I was a kid, so I got the whole refresher on that, plus the I Love Lucy, from episode 1! I don't even bother with cable or any of that. Plus, I think it's cool your kids get to see our old cartoons, the REAL ones, so I bet even you get a kick out of seeing the originals.. and on a nice big screen too! lol The colors are so vivid and bright. If you ever upgrade to anything, try the blu ray. You can rent just blu ray from Netflix too. I bought the dvd Coraline with 3D lol for myself (kid at heart here) and it came with 4 sets of 3D glasses, on the flat screen it looks like you need to move back to avoid some parts lol. Yeah I think McDonald's already had "blockbuster" cornered on blockbuster anyway! lol. Glad you got to catch up on your fav saga too. I only get the 3 at a time movies but I live alone currently so sometimes it takes a while to get them watched.

Oh, and the National Geograhics! I have learned so much that I never knew because of them, and what's better if they're boring you didn't waste time/money on a rental! I've learned a lot from them. :) You definitely have a Netflix friend in me, I could ramble on for days about how much I like them lol but i'll save space for others LOL!!

Peace & happiness to you and your family! -Kathy :)

Hello Longen,

No, you cannot become bored with even the really bad B or C movies. LOL. Especially on streaming. I just love it.

My son always want me to order movies we have already seen in the movie theater, because we can. LOL.

We just watched The Little Rascals together -- this past week -- and my son loves it. Yeah, I love Netflix.

I think I had a free subscription with Netflix also, and I was hooked, because of the No Late Fees. LOL. I took a long time to send my first few rentals back. LOL.

I thank you for your comments.

Old cartoons on YouTube? I did not know that. I will check that out for my son. Thanks.

I am with you about the shows they have on today, but I noticed of late my son wanting to watch something called "Dino Dan". He loves it.

Hello Katy Mason,

I actually took two weekends once to watch all, but the last seasons of Heroes on Netflix, Instant watching on my computer. It was great.

The next weekend I watched the first three seasons of 30 Rock. I never laughed so hard or loud in my life. LOL.

I really love Netflix. I cannot wait to have it streaming from our TV now that my son received Wii from Santa. LOL.

I really do not like most of the cartoons now either. I started with Looney Toons, and Smurfs. For my son, and he loved it.

I use to watch The Smurfs with my baby brother years before ....

I thank you so much for your comments.

I totally agree with you about Netflix. I am a full time college student and a mother, so I dont have time to watch television, although there are movies and shows that I would like to see. Netflix allows me to still be able to watch what I want to at my convenience. I have watched several entire seasons of t.v. shows on Netflix that I haven't been able to catch when they were new on t.v. I also love that I can watch old classic movies and introduce my children to the same cartoons I watched when I was their age. Cartoons today are not the same. They are all so violent!

This school year I decided not to allow my son to watch TV at bedtime.

I use to put it on and place the timers -- one for the TV and the other for the Cable box -- on and allow him to go to sleep while his favorite program is on. He is older now, and I just do not think it is helpful long term.

Piano lessons are what my son is really into now. His school offered it and I am grateful. It did not cost that much -- in my opinion -- for a 10 week program. He will be started on the second half of his lessons January 14, 2011.

I have an older nephew who will be babysitting him and his own little brother this coming Christmas vacation. I cannot wait. I am working on a weekly plan for them. LOL.

I do have fears for the future, but I just want to give my son so many positive choices that he will know better not to choose bad.

I am going to look into free programs they have on the internet here in the USA. Thanks for that advice.

I thank you for sharing briefly about your home life.

Thanks for your wonderful comments.

I loved your blog and your beautiful spirit shines through. I can see how you want to do the best for your child and I can also see how responsible you feel toward the environment. We have four children and we too love movies. We have Sky because that is really the only way to get TV on the island unless we stick a clothes hanger in the TV but the signals to a very limited range of stations would be poor. I never allowed my children free access to TV when they were growing up so although my wife and I got hear them complain about how they were unable to join in on conversations about soaps their friends were watching we did not change our stance. We allowed them to watch certain channels like the documentary channels and of course a collection of amazing DVDs that we still watch but only at the weekend. There was no TV viewing during school nights. We are glad now because every weekend we watch stuff together that enhances our relationship and we have not allowed our children to be influenced by values that would compromise character. We are very proud of our children who are accomplished in academics, sport, music and art. They are involved in the local theatre group, they play piano, violin and guitar, they sing in shows, they do cross country running, athletics, football, hockey, basketball, tennis, swimming and even make time to walk our dog Bella and take care of her. If you occupy the children with worthwhile pursuits they will have no time to develop bad habits or attitudes. Sometimes love is tough but in my opinion it is our duty as parents to teach our children human values and not allow random people on TV to do that for us. Look at what is happening in the world today as a result. We also subscribe to LoveFilm which used to be Amazon. We get two movies sent to us every time we return the two we have watched and it costs a fraction of what you are paying. We also get free online package with our subscription. You should look into that if it is available in USA. Keep up the writing and thank you for reading my blogs.

Wow, subtitles? Cool.

The sad thing is I have to pause my movie so often, because my son needs to check on me only when I am watching a movie and enjoying myself.

Suddenly playing with toys or coloring is not so cool. LOL. So I could not even think about subtitles on a regular. LOL.

Hello IslandVoice,

I usually mail the watched DVDs out on Mondays, and receive the new ones on Thursdays. My son loves seeing the red envelopes inside the mail box when I get the mail.

He gets Thursday evenings -- after home work and dinner -- until Monday Mornings -- after he's dressed for school and waiting to go to his bus -- to watch his favorite DVD of the ones ordered. He watches over and over again.

I love renting the DVDs better. I can always reorder them for him, and I have. To own them for me is a waste. He won't watch them after a while .... LOL.

Thank you so much for your comments.

We cannot live without our Netflix. I swear that's the best thing since toilet paper! LOL My kids prefer watching it vs watching Disney channel or Nickelodeon. I enjoy it because some of the cartoons that I grew up on, now my kids can watch and enjoy them. We only have the 1 DVD + streaming. Keeping up with more than 1 DVD at a time stresses me out way too much. LOL We have it streaming through our Wii system and we love that as well. The kids can watch it on the Wii and dad and I can watch it on the computer at the same time. It is well worth the money. Our monthly fees have paid for itself over and over and over!
