Walking In The Hills of Loma Linda

Many people think that in Southern California you need to work out at the gym, but there are multiple nature trails where you can get exercise instead. Going to the gym is a great way to get in shape and stay fit for many, but why not get out and explore some of the local walking trails for free? Also, many people cannot afford a gym membership, and walking and hiking are free forms of exercise that are within everyone's means. Recently I took a hike up in the hills of Loma Linda, and I enjoyed seeing many different types of plants and flowers. In the early spring, the flowers would be more spectacular, but there were still plants of interest in late June.

What a beautiful area of the country. As I looked at the pictures I could imagine myself walking along the dirt roads and hill and picking myself a bouquet of flowers.

I love Southern California and the opportunities to hike like this there. I have never walked in this area myself, but I have in Laguna, in the hills. When we were last there on vacation, I took the boys and we explored the trails and it was great exercise and great views. I like what you said when you said you can't see beautiful wildflowers like when you are at the gym. How very true! As for the seemingly bare hills at times, that is just So. Cal for you. There isn't the lush trails you get in other areas, but it has a beauty all its own I think, and is very special. I am glad to know of others that like this kind of activity like I do. Loved it, and felt like I was there.

Hi Oceansnsunsets,

I think all of California hills has similar terrain and chaparral, so you probably got a similar feel for the topography hiking in Laguna. I think there is something to the stark beauty here in Southern California, that is a good point.

I saw your comment in my notifications, and came to read it, and realized I had not watched the video. It is cool to find someone else that has a lot in common with myself, because when I was out in some hills in California, I loved any flower I came upon, or like that berry bush, I would have had to take a picture of that. What gave me a chuckle is the talk of the snake and bobcats! It is something people in California have to think about sure, but it is so rare to ever really come across anything like that. On our Laguna trail walk I was on with my family, we saw signs for snakes, etc. You just have to be smart. I will have to video some the next time.

You should make a trip up to the San Bernardino Mountains the next time you are in Southern California. I grew up in that area, and it is a little bit more green than the hills down below. I love both regions, and the mountains are not getting enough water these days, but we even get snow in the winter. I wrote a couple of hubs about the mountains here in Southern California. I love looking at flowers and bushes, and find these things more interesting than parties and such. Nice to meet like minded people here :).
