Lady Gaga: Was She Born This Way?

Lady Gaga...

I'm officially out of the closet. Lady Gaga has achieved something even more difficult than bumping Oprah from the #1 spot on Forbes Most Powerful Celebrities list....she gained me as a fan. It's all good. I have no intentions of dressing up like a Little Monster, she's not my Mother Monster and I have no intentions of wearing a meat dress! I was not always a fan! Up until a year ago I was one of the many who referred to her as Lady Gag-me until I did the unthinkable. I stopped judging her by her appearance and began listening to what she had to say as a person. It was during this process that she reeled me in.

Lady Gaga also known as Stefani Joanne Angelina Germanotta is definitely a unique individual. Her love and respect for her family is powerful. Her family is her world and they fully support her. She was raised Catholic and still practices her religion which might surprise some. Her sister is a fashion designing student and assists with her designs, keeping it in the family....kudos to Gaga! Her father's sister died at a young age from Lupus and Gaga has tested borderline positive for the disease but luckily has no symptoms and is a healthy 25 year old. She wears her Aunt Joanne's birth certificate on a chain (in the form of a charm) and prays to her before each show. Her mother claims that she was really "born this way" and is the real deal. Who are we to question what mama gaga says.

She adores her fans aka Little Monsters and is fascinated by their admiration for her. She hasn't allowed her stardom to go to her head (from what I can tell). Sure she has freaklandish outfits but she's a creative artist expressing herself. Many of us would say she's screaming for attention, well if she is more power to her because it's working!!

Bullying is just plain wrong. Gaga was bullied in school. She was thrown in trash cans, pushed around and ridiculed for her appearance. Bullying brought her to where she is now. That's quite an accomplishment! She used that torture and misfortune to achieve success. She could have gone down another path and permitted the bullies to win, but she didn't and she deserves an atta girl for that. The sad thing is until this day she considers herself a loser and has a tendency to become emotional due to her past abuse. Bullies have no conception of the damage they cause while they are basically entertaining their insignificance.

There are many celebrities that present themselves with their individual identities and have a large fan base. Ozzy Osbourne bit the heads off of bats and look at all he's accomplished! KISS never performed without their makeup and had wild stage antics and they were successful. I now say the more unique the better! I guess we'll never know if Lady Gaga was born this way but if she was she's a lucky lady!

What I've learned from Lady Gaga in the past few months will stick with me forever. I've finally learned to never judge a book by it's cover. Yes it's taken me awhile but I'm finally there and I'm happy about it. I now appreciate people and the uniqueness that they offer the world. We are all different, rare individuals who represent the melting pot that we thrive in. We all have something to offer society, some of us just haven't found our niche yet. I prefer to think we were all born this way and that makes this world a better place. Rock on Monsters! Paws Up!!

Lady Gaga

"To everyone who says this is wrong to feel like this say, 'I was born this way baby."
Lady Gaga

"When I wake up in the morning, I feel like any other insecure 24-year-old girl. Then I say,'Bitch, you're Lady Gaga, you get up and walk the walk today."

Hahahaha, I LOVE hubs with catchy titles. It always makes me want to read them. Did you hear, apparently Gaga is more influential than Oprah now. I think this is because Oprah's show is ending. I'm wondering if Gaga deserves it, I mean, she has only crazy unwearable fashion and music going for her. She better be ready to be a good role model. Great hub, voted up! :)

Yes I did hear about Gaga being more influential than Oprah but Im still digesting that. Those are some big shoes to fill and I personally don't think Gaga could pull it off...,she still has some reeling to do with me! Lol thanks for the up!!

I have to admit my knowledge of Lady Gaga was (1) I knew she was a singer (2) I heard she won a meat dress at an awards show and (3) that was very popular. After reading your hub I can say I she why people like her so much....she has some great quotes, the video is pretty impressive too......I do not see how she bumped Oprah from the most influential title.....when Lady Gaga has her own network, magazine and book club...maybe then she will top Oprah....great hub thanks for sharing this information...voted up

Sunshine625 5 years ago

Hey cogerson :) Aren't you glad that now you know more about Gaga? FYI: Justin Bieber is #3...to hub or not to hub that is the question. Haha! Thanks for your comment! :)

Lady Gaga has the nerve to wear on the outside what she feels on the inside. I don't think we all have to do that, but we'd sure be healthier if we did accept our "insides" like Gaga does! Thought-provoking hub about not judging, rated up and awesome!

Hi Sunshine,

This is the first time I am seeing a photo of the meat dress. It is interesting to say the least! I became intrigued with Lady Gaga with her first performance on American Idol some years back. She did her new (at the time) song Poker Face. Her talent on the piano sold me; I love piano music.

Her performance of Edge of Glory on this years finale was really amazing, even if I would suggest it is PG rated. It really showcased her awesome singing talent.

I am still not sure that I agree that she is more influential than Oprah, but she is a force to be reckoned with, and I also agree that her words of wisdom should be heard.

She was on American Idol, which i happen to like watching. She resembled a stripper whilst performing her new song, which i quite liked. (The song not her act) Most of the modern acts are raunchy and Madonna was probably more out there. She's got my vote in the singing dept', but i'm getting too old for the other stuff.

Admittedly, I have barely paid attention to her and this hub is my first real look at who she might be. The meat dress totally reminds me of a similarly bizzare rock icon from many years ago when I was a teen: Frank Zappa. Considered "weird" by some, he was also a musical genius in the eyes of others.

The title caught my attention. You've caught the perfect hook line for it. I'm not too up on pop culture anymore so I always need an explanation to stay in the loop. I'll keep reading.

Carliismiles<3 5 years ago

You've heard it many times, the title you gave it caught my attention on so many levels and i loved reading every little bit of the article. I agree with you on the whole "dressing up" thing. Her style.. no one can compare, but i could never wear the things she wears. Doesn't mean we can't love her music, right? Anyway, glad you love her! Although a lot of her music is weird, they all have a special message to them!

Hey Sunshine,

Interesting hub--learned some things I did not know. I applaud her for overcoming bullying--that's a great message. I get so sick of the victim mentality these days.

That said, her music is not my style, and every time I hear her name, I understand your initial reaction of "Lady-Gag-Me." I simply cannot fathom why anyone would choose a stage name that sounds like baby talk babble.

Hi Sunshine, it's nice to see we have something very much in common...both of us didn't really have a high opinion of Lady Gaga, until we actually listened to her music and what she had to say.

Right on.

Very informative hub you wrote as well. I have done some online reseach on Lady Gaga, but was not aware that she was bullied and ridiculed for her appearance.

What was it about her appearance that gave her such negative attention? As for bullying, that is a very common social problem. It happens a heck of a lot more than people realize.

I got into Gaga when I watched her Very Gaga thanksgiving special on tv. Do you know how gorgeous she is? She's very pretty, but hides it with her strange get-ups! She's said she does that though so people listen to who she is and her real talent- and not just another pretty face like a lot of celebs who are pretty but honestly cannot sing (or act). An odd way to go about it considering many people judge her on what she wears, and that's not what she wants. Gaga's so talented! I was watching I think Dr. Oz recently and a guest for some reason was talking about Gaga, and he knew her. He's like Oh, Stephanie! Yeah she is awesome, a really cool kid when she was younger and her family is great. See, she's real, not just someone named Gaga :) Very talented though!!! Awesome hub. voted up.

Lady Gaga is not my cup of tea! My 16 year old daughter listens to her a little, but she isn't really a fan. She criticizes her quite often. I am not a fan. I don't really like her music at all, it's not my style. I read your hub and am happy that anyone rises above bullying. I don't understand why anyone feels the need to bully another human being. It's sad!

I think a lot of people have trouble taking Lady Gaga seriously because of some of the way she dresses and comes across. I would have never listened to her music had my daughter not had it on. I'm sure this is probably why some people don't like her. They see the outside and her antics but not the inside. That's the real issue here. We see the surface but never the inside. Your hub actually allows us to see a little more than most people see of her. Good job. I still am not a fan but I respect her a little more now.

I appreciate your expressions of the tuned-in feelings you have for today's entertainers. Personally, I'm not a bit interested. As far as Lady G goes, I think there are more important reasons for living on this planet. On the other hand, I identify with not judging a book by its cover. Thanks for an insight into a personality I've dismissed from the time I heard her name. Maybe there's something more to wearing meat than meets my eye.
