Watch Phineas and Ferb (It’s not only for kids.)

Updated on March 17, 2014

I know that this must seem a little juvenile, but Phineas and Ferb Rocks! Let me explain. If you haven’t heard of Phineas and Ferb then you definitely need to read this Hub. Phineas and Ferb is a cartoon on the Disney Channel about these two stepbrothers, Phineas and Ferb, and how they decide that they will not waste their summer. They will try to create different things every day, incredible things. His sister Candace doesn’t go for this, she is determined to bust them no matter what. While Candace is running around the town of Danville trying to get her mom, who is always doing chores, to bust them, the boys are in the backyard building these incredible contraptions that include a rollercoaster, an elevator for the moon and a fun house. When Candace finally gets her mom back home, the awesome inventions the boys create suspiciously disappear. On a side story, the boys have a pet platypus called Perry, who is a secret agent for the OWCA (Organization Without a Cool Acronym) that is in charge of stopping the “evil genius” Dr. Heinz Doofenshmirtz.

The thing that I like the most about the show is that it’s optimistic and joyful. The characters are upbeat and lovable. Phineas is caring, leader of the group who comes up with the ideas. Ferb is the loving stepbrother who only speaks when there is something to say (in a British accent, I might add). Candace is the boy crazy older sister who would do anything to bust them. And then there is the gang. Isabella is the leader of the Fireside Girls (kind of like the Girl Scouts) who is madly in love with Phineas. And then there is Baljeet, the nerd who is bullied by the thuggish Buford. And let’s not forget Perry the Platypus, who acts the dull pet in front of the family, but is really a bold and courageous hero that saves the town daily from Dr. Doofenshmirtz.

So, what makes Phineas and Ferb so amazing?

It’s ideal for children and it has music!

The animation is beautiful and simple, so that kids are able to draw the characters easily. It also has bright colors which are engaging since they look like candy. Kids will be glued to the television. And they will laugh, oh how they will laugh! They show is hilarious and smart. If you don’t believe me, see it for yourself. Phineas and Ferb is not only entertaining, but educational too. Where else would they have learned what an aglet is? Even I learned what an aglet is, and I learned it in through song! (If you don't know what an aglet is, see the link to the aglet song. Phineas and Ferb will teach you as well.) Yes, it has music. But it’s not the Dora the Explorer “We did it, Lo hicimos!” song or something out of The Wiggles. No! They are original, catchy, funny, sometimes funky type of songs.

It’s not only for kids!

Where else will you find a show that not only your child enjoys, but you too? Who said that adults can’t watch cartoons? Adults watch The Simpsons. Adults watch Family Guy. Adults watch South Park. Why can’t they enjoy Phineas and Ferb too? Who says that comedy has to be raunchy to gain an adult audience? Funny is funny, plain and simple. The writers of Phineas and Ferb are clever, they not only write a show that is targeted for children, but they slip in a few things that adults can enjoy. They sometimes write in a few adult friendly pop culture references that only adults will catch. For example, Dr. Doofenshmirtz says “Who's that tap-tap-tapping? Is that the pesky raven again?”, which is clearly a reference to Edgar Allan Poe’s The Raven. In the show, we can see many references from Alfred Hitchcock, Stanley Kubrick, Star Wars, Indiana Jones, the Wizard of Oz, TV shows like CSI: Miami and even from the Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy.

So don’t be embarrassed that you watch a show targeted for children. Phineas and Ferb is not just a show for children, but a show that can be enjoyed by all ages. It truly is an amazing show, that if you are not watching, you are missing out!
