When I Was Your Age, We Had Pokemon...

Pokemon.. I remember them!

I was about 10 years old when the Pokemon fever hit. Anybody who wanted to be somebody had a tazo. A tazo, you ask? It was a little round, plastic thing which had a pokemon on the front and the pokemon emblem on the back. There were 150 to collect.. until they decided to release various versions of Pokemon. I think the estimated total of Pokemon now stands at 493 and yet the favourite remains.. PIKACHU! That cute little yellow creature with the lightening bolt tail saying "pika?"

According to statistics, okémon has since become the second most successful and lucrative video game-based media franchise in the world, behind only Nintendo's own Mario Series. Yes, Pokemon is from the Nintendo group.

It's quite simple. There are hundreds of Pokemon trainers with two goals: to find every species of Pokemon and enter it into the Pokedex ( a photographic journal to keep track of all seen Pokemon) and to train the Pokemon to the ultimate level of being a champion. Trainers enter a gym in which they battle a master of a certain badge. Once all eight badges are collected, the trainer proceeds to Pokemon League.

An animation series of Pokemon was released and it took the world by storm. Every child wanted to be a trainer and every child wanted a pokemon. And then the worst disaster hit. Many children committed suicide and left notes saying the Pokemon made them do it. This shocked many people and Pokemon gradually began to fade into the shadows. Few people today even remember Pokemon.

There was even a trading card game in which we would trade these cardboard cards and engage in battle with an opponent. It was great fun and a pastime for many youngsters.

There is even a Pokemon video game which may seem easy but as you progress, the levels become harder. If anyone is interested in a copy of the game, feel free to email me, using the subject of Pokemon game in your email.

When I was your age, we had Pokemon.. today you have a range of anime that's not even as interesting as Pokemon was. Many people will remember Pokemon and memories never die.

I too remember Pokemon - one of my step-sons at the time was an avid collector. This are so much more technical and I sometimes wonder if all this technology inhibits creativity. Cool HUB...
