Justin Bieber: Fast Facts

Source
Source

Where ever he goes, girls lose their minds. Crowds and rumors swarm around him like a crazed cloud of hyperactive flies. So, just who is this Justin Bieber person? If you have a tween living under your roof, you probably already know the answer to this question. It would be hard to miss the posters covering her bedroom wall, the “I’m a Belieber!” fan t-shirt, or the strains of the song “Baby” leaking out from under her bedroom door. But for the other dozen or so of us that have never heard of him, again I ask “who the heck is Justin Bieber?”

Well, for starters, he was named the third-most-powerful celebrity in the world for 2012 by Forbes Magazine behind Oprah Winfrey and Jennifer Lopez. Wow, seriously?! I know of and respect Oprah and Jennifer, but what has “The Bieber” done for the world besides cause the whole tween society to become obsessed with a mop-haired 18 year old boy? He’s also the second highest paid performer under the age of 30, beaten out of the top spot by Taylor Swift by a measly $2 million. That darn Taylor anyway!

A Little Background

History will forever commemorate March 1, 1994 as the day that Justin Drew Bieber was in Stratford, Ontario, Canada. And what, pray tell, is his claim to fame? He is a singer–songwriter, actor, and a self-taught musician (he plays the piano, guitar, and the drums). In 2008, an American talent agent by the name of Scott ‘Scooter’ Braun was perusing YouTube (hopefully, searching for talented yet unknown musical artists and not watching the rejects from the game show “Wipe Out”) and came across a video of Bieber. After contacting Bieber and begging to become his manager, Braun arranged a meeting with the entertainer, Usher Raymond who competed against Justin Timberlake to represent the young YouTube star. He was signed to the Raymond Braun Media Group and then was offered a recording contract by record executive L.A. Reid of Island Records.

Justin Bieber - His Music

Bieber’s first single "One Time," became a huge, worldwide triumph and was certified Platinum in the US and Canada. “My World,” his debut album, was an international phenomenon. In 2011, he released the concert film “Never Say Never” which became an instant success. He is currently on his “Believe” worldwide concert tour. He has sold over 15 million albums since his debut in 2009.

Justin Bieber's Success On Social Media

As of June 2012, he has amassed a staggering 23 million Twitter followers topped only by Lady Gaga. He has 44 million Facebook fans, which is more than Mitt Romney and Barack Obama's followers combined. How about Bieber for US President? Don’t count on it. He says he never plans on becoming an American citizen because “You guys are evil. Canada's the best country in the world. We go to the doctor and we don't need to worry about paying him, but here, your whole life, you're broke because of medical bills. My bodyguard's baby was premature, and now he has to pay for it. In Canada, if your baby's premature, he stays in the hospital as long as he needs to, and then you go home.”

Watch out world, the young, forward thinking venture capitalist is amassing stakes in startups including Enflick, Tinychat and Spotify.

So That's Who Justin Bieber is!

There you have it folks. A plausible explanation that a mass majority of tween girls the world over have lost their minds and are incapable of getting their chores or homework done. They are obsessed with a young, good looking, singing sensation, not too different than the likes of Michael Jackson, Leif Garret, Elvis Presley and Bobby Darin. Eventually, they will find their way back to normal and find a new obsession to spend your hard earned money on.

Well, here comes "Gram Dawg," and her own personal opinion......Doesn't matter..old news, new news, stale or fresh.....IMO the Bieb is precious.....and quite entertaining. An old lady like me, saying such things. That's right. I enjoy his music and I appreciate his voice. He can dance and move across a stage and gets the crowd crazy and hopping. Of course he's a teenage idol.....we all had them at some point.

He's simply adorable and I hope his popularity continues to grow and goes on and on........I love the Bieb.......and I don't care who knows it!LOL.............UP+++

I initially liked him when he started with his "never say never" and "baby", but with time he has spoiled his image, and I can't tolerate him anymore.. although he is my son's favorite..

You should certainly pull in the traffic with this Bieber hub, and I hope you do. I do not pay much attention because I am older and have other interests, but I was young once upon a time. I do understand youngsters, I think. I have seen his face and name all over the media, so, I only knew that he was a booming singer.

Great introduction to Bieber! Thanks for sharing.

I think he is great! I loved the Christmas song he did last year. I suppose many here though are a bit old for him but that still does not change his talent. I love spending an hour playing his music many times. He is very cute and not into drugs having to dry out, that puts him two more points up. Great hub. Up and sharing.

At my age I'm not a fan of the Bieb, but as Aubrey said I admire his chutzpah, his hard work, and his talent. True some luck was involved in his discovery but hey, he's kept it going! I wish him years of success.

Now, who the heck is One Direction?

Voted your hub up, useful, and interesting.

TToombs08 profile image

TToombs08 4 years ago from Somewhere between Heaven and Hell without a road map. Author

Heya, Aubrey! I do like the fact that he actually worked to get discovered and that he is self taught. I think his handlers are either marketing him to appeal to the masses or they won't allow him to be original. I've seen that happen before, Jewel to name one. I think with his mom always being there, he has a better chance of not being led down the wrong path. Thank you so much for your input and positive comment!

Yay! :) I really liked this because I actually do enjoy Bieber's music. He's got some heart and seems really in touch with his fans. I think he's so popular because of his origin story. He's really come a long way in his own life and he's SELF TAUGHT. They don't make em like they used to. He's a cool kid. I just hope fame and success doesn't sour his "greenness" if you know what I mean ;) Thanks Terrye, always a pleasure!

KDuBarry03 4 years ago

One Direction is very good! Those kids are very talented for their age. I recently just commented on a hub on them yesterday :) I really look forward to watch them grow as artists! They definitely have the potential, the voices, and the iconic personalities for people to easily follow :)

TToombs08 profile image

TToombs08 4 years ago from Somewhere between Heaven and Hell without a road map. Author

Heya, KD! :) I enjoyed your "rant" and agree with you, he does need to grow as an artist. But he had a lot of potential. He just needs to find his own way instead of borrowing from others. What do you think of One Direction?

TToombs08 profile image

TToombs08 4 years ago from Somewhere between Heaven and Hell without a road map. Author

He does stand to make a bus load of money, Audra! :) So, he must be doing something right. :)

KDuBarry03 4 years ago

Even though I respect all kinds of music, I have to be a harsh critic here. His music is too "pop-culture" oriented and reuses the same chord progressions, traits, and themes other artists in his art do. Yes, he is a sensation and is a "model", but I really think he should try other genres of music to fit his voice and actually give us something "new" rather than going with the flow. For example: Adele changed music by showing different styles of music. She listened and appreciated different styles of music and incorporated them into her own. I know some of you may not be fans of Lady Gaga, but she is definitely a big sensation with her music. She went to school for it, she knows what she's doing, can play the piano, sing songs with/without technical enhancements. I truly think Justin Bieber needs to expand MUCH more to grow more as an artist than as a pop icon.

Sorry for my rant! Thank you for an awesome hub, once again, Terrye :)

I have to admit, I am not JB fan at all! I did learn something new here...Usher represents him and LA reid has him at his label. They definitely will make lots of mula!!!

Hiya, Beckie! :) Did you remember to wear your ear protection? :) As I have a 5 year old boy, I am not usually exposed to the Justin Biebers of the world. Well, that was until I was asked to place an ad for his upcoming concerts on my blog. I thought it was kind of an unusual request and had to look up this Bieber person.

I understand that his mom travels everywhere with him, so hopefully she's there to keep him out of trouble and on track. I'd hate to see him head down the self destructive path that so many young stars have ended up on. I hope he does well. :) Thanks for sharing your introduction to Justin Bieber. :) lol!

Yes - as you have stated so well, I learned of him through my niece and her screaming giggling girlfriends. Although every generation has them, this kid astounds me. He really is multi-talented and just look how far he has come in such a short time.

Recent reports have me a bit worried that too much fame and fortune at such a young age may be quite harmful.

Ok. First, there are apparently far too many teenagers in the world with nothing to do! How many teens make up the 7 billion population count, Bill?

Secondly, where are the literary scouts? Why aren't they plugging into HubPages? There is SOOOOOOO much talent here! We're all starving artists who were governed to finish our education before finding a bandwagon our parents could ride on! Then we became parents and went broke because our kids come first.

There's more to art than lyrical voice. You eventually become to old to carry a note. However, we oldsters never become too old to write! Hell, we can write songs for the kids who don't know their ass from a hole in the ground! Or at least have no business singing what they're singing about!

I didn't mean this to be firey, but hell, we deserve a look-see too!

Come on, scouts! Peruse HubPages! You'll find money making talent here whose audience doesn't change because they've gotten too old to cry about missing out on the prom!

Ok, go ahead and slap me. I'm just saying.......

There is no market quite as lucrative as teenage girls. Win them over and you're destined to succeed. Most teenage girls I know are crazy about One Direction, however, my 12-year-old sister has a crush on this guy. The tickets for his concert in March next year were released for sale a few days ago and I went to inform myself about the prices, and boy, was I happy to be among "the first" to ask for the tickets; only a few of them were left (almost everything sold out on the very first day). I asked my sister numerous times what she saw in this guy and her reply was always: "He's just perfect. And, Selena Gomez is stupid. I have no idea what he sees in her." Well, I still don't get it, but I'm happy that I made my sister happy. She's walking in the clouds. Now, she just has to wait 8 months to see her prince charming!

I had Bieber Fever, but like all Tweens I've moved on to One Direction. Their songs are a bit more catchy. Bieber had his 15 minutes, he's overdone. It was fun while it lasted. Great hub!!!

Hiya, RHW! Ok, now I'm scared...I dunno what would be worse; a zombie attack or being trapped at a concert of Beliebers! :) Sounds like you and the girls had a lot of fun. :) Thank you for sharing a positive point of view of "The Biebs." Much appreciated!

Oh TT - I have 3 girls - two of them are tween "Beliebers" for shizzle! LOL I even had to go to a concert...I saw this kid and I tell ya - he has the whole package. Cute, can sing, dance and do it with lots of confidence. You have not LIVED until you see him in the little wire heart cage - dazzling and mesmerizing thousands of screaming little girls! haha

Awesome hub! I loved it:)

Hiya, Christy! I have to agree, he's a smart cookie when it comes to marketing himself. Reminds me of Garth Brooks, who once said something along the lines of - he doesn't have the best voice in country music but he sure knows how to market himself. Yeah, yeah, go kiss a moose, eh! :)

I think he has such a great marketing technique; he is popular because of the image he has created just as much as he is for his voice! Good info here and oh yes GO CANADA!

I only know who he is cos my daughter is doing a cover of his song 'Somebody To Love' on You Tube and I have to say, he's ok. I'm too much of an old fart to buy any of his songs but good luck to him.

Lots of interesting info about him here Terrye.

Hi Georgie! :) I can admire his entrepreneurial spirit, I just don't think I'll ever be a fan of his music tho. But then, I liked groups my parents never understood (Motley Crue and Guns n Roses). Thank you so much for taking a moment to read and leave me a kind comment. I appreciate that! :)

Thank you, Debbie! :) I had honestly not heard of him until last week. I must be getting old! :) I'll have to look into the other group that your granddaughters love. :)

You are very lucky, Doc. I hope she never catches a case of "Bieber Fever." :) Appreciate the VUM. :)

I got challenged to write a couple hubs on The Biebs, and I decided I didn't hate him as much as I did before writing them. As far as pop stars go, at least he can write and play some instruments. I'd rather kids admire him than any of the Kardashians. Good job with this Hub!

Thank you, Josh, but it looks like you might be in the minority on this one. :) Appreciate the share and the read. :)

I am with Bill on this and will never get Bieber's popularity, but that said one of my brother's try good friends (he is male in his 20s and straight) is obsessed with him so there you have it, seems to be some kind of contagious disease! Seriously great hub and very informative. Shared and voted up too, Terrye!

Ah, that's who he is. Thankfully my tween daughter has bypassed the Bieber and gone to OneD. So no 'baby' but 'You light up my world like nobody else'. Great hub TT. This could be a series like Sunshine's fan letters. VUMs, me dear. VUMs indeed.

I was expecting a hub on space aliens and I get Bieber....well, pretty close now that I think about it. I don't get it regarding this kid....and I never will get it. Great hub about a mediocre talent at best.

TT,

Great idea for a hub! There is some good information nestled into this one, some stuff I had no idea about him! I hate to admit it, but his songs are catchy, and he is rather talented! I loved your intro!

Great job and thanks for sharing! Have a great day TT! :)
