Why do I like Punk Music?

Is it a Rebel in Me Type of Thing?

First of all I'm 40 years old. My first album was on an 8 track and it was Donnie Osmond. Now in my defense I was only about 7 at the time. Then I found Debbie Harry. I played the Blondie album until it was worn out. I have the CD in my mini-van, yes I'm a mama and I drive a mini-van.

I wear my hair shorn and it's usually bleached blonde. Right now it is supposed to be auburn, but it's more like a christmas ribbon burgundy. I also wear it a tad spiky.

The other day I dropped the F bomb and the guy I said it to was rolling on the floor literally laughing his head off. He said that spiky hair really suits you. In my defense I was cursing someone who should have been lending a hand but was just ignoring us, that's another story. That's my latest rebel story. Did I tell you about how I used to wear socks that said bad words on them to work?

I listened to the Dead Kennedys, the Ramones, Sex Pistols, The Clash, Talking Heads, to name a few. As I was a teen in the 80's. We all tried to be as rebellious as we could back then. There isn't much chance of that in a small farm town where everyone knows everyone.  I never got away with anything.

Why Do I Sometimes Dream about Being Pink?

I still dream about being a rockstar. I dream that I'm Pink and I'm having a blast rocking out on stage with a midriff baring leather and lace punk outfit on. Black leather boots that go up past the knee. The crowd is screaming, jumping, and having a blast. The excitement, the adrenalin that flows.

I know the only way I will ever be a rockstar is in my dreams. I purchased rock band for Xbox at Christmas. Last night my son and I spent quite a while playing. My son is 8 he plays the guitar and I sing. It's quite a sight. I noticed my fellow hubber jayjay40 likes playing this game also so I thought I would fess up. My Husband poked his head in the room last night and looked rather bewildered. A girl can dream.

I have several punk songs loaded on my iPod, Pink, Green Day, Blondie, and some others. I have a confession to make. I imagine I am a punk rockstar when I am working out on the elliptical trainer at the gym. I have to admit that it must feel like that to be up on stage with people cheering you and your heart is pounding. I listen to it really loud so it drowns out all other noises and I just get lost. I read somewhere that positive imagery helps athletes out a lot. I must confess it sure helps me get a good workout. I skipped today and I am wanting to get there right now just thinking about it.

A Girl Can Dream

I do have a very rebellious side to me. Isn't that what punk is all about? Being rebellious, rage against society. I admire Pink because she doesn't put up with all that Hollywood hoopla and garbage. She rebels against it. Check out "So What Lyrics" or "Stupid Girls Lyrics" and you'll understand. She does write her own songs. Her real name is Alecia Beth Moore but she goes by her nickname.

I used to have a nickname but it wasn't rockstar worthy trust me. I even used to answer to it. I am not divulging though. I still claim to be very introverted and I am I prefer to work out alone and be alone most of the time. I get rather overwhelmed in a crowd. I can still hold on to my litte fantasy though. I am a Rockstar...in my dreams.

I'm almost 40 too, yet I still listen to heavy metal music, just like when I was 16. And it still makes me feel good. It gives me a kind of energetic boost. :) Glad we are somehow compeers.

And btw you seem 30. :)

Great hub, Tammy! If it's all the same to you, I used to break dance with my brother and the rest of our neighborhood. It seems there was nothing wrong with a bunch of guys standing around a big piece of cardboard and a boombox while taking turns dancing (try that nowadays).

You look great with your spiky hair :D You can remove the girl from Punk Music but you can't remove the Punk Music from the girl, eh?

Hey I'm 50 +. Sometimes some music just rocks your soul. I for some reason went from listening to R & B / and some Rap to Classical all day. It has had a very soothing inspirational effect on me. It also keeps me from shooting my co-workers in alphabetical order. I simply l-o-v-e Pink. Her ballsyness is such a breath of fresh air. To me she makes Lady GaGa look like such a wimp. You gotta admit your a pretty ballsy lady yourself.

Rock on Tammy!!!!

YAY TAMMY ! I grew up in the punk rock scene and was regular at all the punk clubs on the Sunset Strip in the Westside of LA. And some of the underground clubs in Chinatown. Now ya got me reminiscing ! I saw the Ramones 6 times by 1980 and The Clash and so many more I can't even name them all here. But I was one of the full on punkers back in the day ! I knew I liked you !

And like you I had my rebellion period and now I like to think of myself as a little kid who has grown up responsibilities. Damn I miss those days. Thx for the reminder. By the way you may want to check out some of my music hubs. We have very similar taste !

Hey Rockstar what about Bad Religion? Probably my favorite or close to one of my favorite punk bands of all time. They taught me the word "ubiquitous" how punk rock is that Tammy! They have a song titled "Recipe For Hate" that is so jam packed full of conviction. I'm not a punk fan but I'm a 100 years old I think. My soul flows to softer rhythms. But on a more important subject- why doesn't rhythm have an "e" between the "h" and "m"? And why is there a flipping "h" after the "r"? Oooo I'm so mad about that! Where were we? Oh yeah- if you will take some Geritol I'm sure your music tastes will correct themselves. You'll be listening to those big band sounds before you know it.
