It is finally announced that Thala’s "Arrambam" release date is confirmed. The producer A.M.Ratham, today has officially announced the release date of Ajith, Arya, Nayantara and Taapsee starrer "Arrambam" on 31 of October

Currently the film unit is in Dubai.

Ajith Kumar has proved again that he is king when it comes to film opening. The actor, who has done cameo in yesteryear actress Sridevi comeback movie English Vinglish, has managed to pull the audience to theatres, as the film has got a flying start at Tamil Nadu Box Office.

The early reports emerging from traders say that the Tamil version of English Vinglish did wonderful business in the first weekend. The Kollywood version made far better business than the Hindi version. Nonetheless, there was lots of demand for tickets for both versions in Chennai. On Saturday and Sunday, the movie ran for packed house in all the multiplexes in Chennai.

Traders say that English Vinglish largely banked on Ajith Kumar fans and family audience and it won thumbs up from both the sections. The film was released in 147 screens (Tamil version screened at 110 screens). However, it has collected more than eight cores in the first two days in India and the exact figure is yet to be revealed.

English Vinglish is directed by Gauri Shinde.

The movie also features Mehdi Nebbou, Adil Hussain, Sulbha Deshpande and others in the cast. While Ajith has done cameo for the Tamil version, Amitabh Bachchan will be seen in the same role in the Hindi version.

Billa 2, as ever recorded the biggest openings worldwide for the king of openings Thala Ajith. Makers have grabbed a huge some on the opening weekend and is estimated nearly Rs.40crores gross.

Speaking to the media producer Sunir Kheterpal said, “3 days Total domestic gross 38-40cr that is in line with my estimated Tamil Nadu gross of about Rs.27+cr and remaining 11+cr from rest of India.

Director Chakri Toleti has helmed Billa 2 in the production house In Entertainment along with Wide Angle Creations banners.

Yuvan Shakar Raja has scored the music and BGM for Billa 2, besides playing a cameo as the senior gangster. Parvathy Omanakuttan and Bruna Abdullah have played the female leads while Sudhanshu Pandey and Vidjut Jamwal have played villains for Ajith.

Ajith’s Billa 2 is moving forward with good mouth talks, even when received mixed reviews for the story and screenplay of the film.

Billa 2 is a medium-paced action thriller with lots of blood-shed but mercifully no gore. The film that is a prequel to the 2007 Ajith Kumar film Billa, sends out just message. If people are inconvenient or disloyal, just kill them all and come back alone.

So through the two and a half hour duration; Ajith (David Billa) turns himself into a mean-killing machine; who is adept at using a knife, a gun or even his bare fists to pound people to pulp.

The narrative is linear; it talks of the rise and rise of Billa, who finds himself virtually jobless in a refugee camp for a brief while. Destiny sends him on a chore to deliver fish. Voila, there are diamonds in the fish belly and before you know Billa is fishing diamonds out of the black soil. He is also eliminating a few bad guys along the way at regular intervals; almost like a terminator.

The action movies from the South of India to Goa; and also nestles lovingly in some exotic locations in Georgia, Eastern Europe. But almost all other aspects of this film including the very weak music, the practically non-existent Kollywood dancing and buffoonery are minimal because the entire focus is on showing Billa to be a relentless killer.

Not one to rest on his laurels, he moves from diamond-smuggling to dealing in drugs in a jiffy. And he makes even quicker progress to smuggling illegal arms. It is as if the director is a tearing hurry to see Billa rise to the top of his heap. No soul-searching excuses for this hero, who by the time of the end-credits becomes the top villain.

So is there any emotional connect in the film at all or not?

Yes, Billa has a handicapped sister in Madras (this is a prequel remember—so Chennai is referred to as Madras.) But the sister conveniently dies after just one scene and Billa is left baby-sitting her young daughter Parvathy Oomanakuttan (Jasmine.) Parvathy is a Miss India 2008 winner and is fortunate to have got the big break.

Coming back to the film, it's clear that Jasmine is infatuated with Billa but he of course has no time for her puppy-love. Instead he prefers to make eyes at his boss Sudhanshu Panday's (Abbasi) girl Bruna Abdullah (Sameera). But even this love story is lacklustre because Billa is quintessentially a gun-guy and not your average roses-type.

While the girls have been short-changed by the script-writer and given extended cameos; the two villains—Abbasi and Dimitri—have their screen moments. Both Bollywood exports to Tamil cinema; these good-looking guys manage to make their mark. Especially so in the case of Vidyut, who is a martial arts expert and whose screen introduction is truly impressive.

Coming to the protagonist—Ajith's entry on screen at the multiplex where we watched Billa 2 was greeted with deafening whistles. Though his screen character is uni-dimensional, Ajith manages to charm with his lop-sided smile and some heavyweight dialogue. Check this out--`another man's fear is our strength'; `to be my friend you don't need any qualifications—but to be my enemy you certainly need status.' Whistle, clap, clap when more of these lines are thrown at an audience that has put Ajith on a pedestal long enough.

Tip off: If you're a Ajith fan—Billa 2 is a must. If you're an action aficionado, it's a treat. If you're neither, then don't bother.

An official release from IN Entertainment (INE), part of the Hinduja Group, which is presenting & producing Billa 2, has announced that all Distribution Rights of the film, except Kerala and Hindi dubbing Rights, have been sold at a record breaking prices garnering revenues exceeding Rs 40 crores.

All territories have been sold at record prices for any Ajith film till date. Overall revenue from the film is higher by 35% as compared to the previous film with certain territories outside of Tamil Nadu going for as much as 80% increase. Thus, increasing the share of revenue from outside of home state while highlighting the sales and exploitation strategy.

Mankatha is an upcoming Tamil comedy-action crime story film written and directed by Venkat Prabhu. It features Ajith Kumar within the main character, making it his 50th film, along with a communal counterfeit together with Arjun, Trisha Krishnan, Vaibhav Reddy, Lakshmi Rai, Andrea Jeremiah, Premji Amaren and Anjali.

I started my career with 'Amaravathi' and now my 50th film 'Mankatha' is all set for release. I would like to this opportunity to thank my co-stars, filmmakers, producers, technicians, journalists, fans and public and my family members. I have been over a deep thought making a decision upon an issue and now I felt like announcing it.

I have never used my fans for my personal interests and will never do such things at any point of time. If my films are good, they have the rights to appreciate it and on pars if not done well, they own the rights to criticize and advise me. At the same time, I am clear about the fact that all my fans are not the members of my fans club. I have never differentiated my fans on this ground.

'The fans club members haven't been affirmative towards my requests and there is no unity amongst them. It makes me so distressed to see that some of them have misused the fans club identity in political arenas.

Ajith Kumar was born (May 1 1971) as the middle child in Secunderabad, a city north of Hyderabad to a Palakkad Iyer father and a Sindhi mother from Calcutta, and brought up in Chennai, Tamil Nadu. His brothers are Anil and Anup Kumar both being software engineers.

He was dropped out of Asan Memorial Sr. Sec. School in 1986 and become a part-time 2/4-wheeler mechanic. Before his career began, he worked in two wheeler auto mechanic, a merchandiser with a garment export company based in Erode till 1990, doing small-time press ads and TV commercials (One of those ads was for the company headed by film-star Revathi's husband Suresh Menon) occasionally.

His fourth release Vaanmathi. The film was released on the Pongal day of 1996. which made a mega collection and box-office hit in screens The film completed 175 days and celebrated silver jubilee function. The Songs in this film also a smash hit those days.

Kadhal Kottai is a 1996 Tamil film directed by Agathiyan, in which Ajith Kumar and Devayani play lead roles, apart from Heera Rajgopal, Thalaivasal Vijay, and Karan who played important roles.

Kadhal Kottai's director, Agathiyan, earned cult status after he razed down conventional rules of love in this film. He made his lead pair fall in love without ever having seen each other. While fresh-faced Devayani lived in Ooty and wrote letters, Ajith worked in Jaipur, handling his fiercely attracted boss, Heera as well. The plot revolves around two introvert hearts falling in unconditional love without seeing each other until the climax

This was the second film by Agathiyan-Ajith combo following Vaanmathi.

The film has a nail-biting climax, which spawned dozens of clones. It won Agathiyan the National Award for best direction, and firmly earned superstar status for both Ajith and Devayani.

This period also saw the escalation of a romance with Heera which, to put it mildly, turned out to be turbulent.
