    This a good idea?

So I'm a musician and I've written various songs and play guitar, however, I want to get away from my friends' opinions on them (because they are biased and of course will say they're good) and want to record and post some songs on youtube with pics to go along with it to see how good the vid does. Is this a good idea or is there a more effective way of getting my music out there?

If you really love what your doing usually this come out naturally. I think that's a good idea, for you to know what others wanna say. Hope, that whatever is the outcome, it won't be the only basis for you to do you best and not to continue what you want to be. Just gave a shot. What matters is that at the end; you'll learned something.

I don't see why you shouldn't post on YouTube. You will get plenty of exposure and just maybe the right person will come along and see and hear you music. That's all it take is one right person and you get discovered. This is just my opinion my friend.

Good luck and there is no harm trying that's for sure.

YouTube is an excellent promotional tool but requires finding followers so it can be slow.  But it worked for Justin Bieber.  And it's how I found http://www.youtube.com/user/THADANCERKIDD

You should upload some of your stuff to music sharing sites such as http://audionautix.com/ or http://audiojungle.net/

I definitely think that posting on youtube could be beneficial. Don't ONLY use youtube, of course... it's always good to have multiple resources. Also, be aware that since youtube is available to the public you might get some jerks making rude comments about your music or just about you in general because they have nothing better to do than throw negativity around. That being said I think that you will find more positive people than negative out there! I think you should go for it. I'd listen to it on youtube.

Posting it on youtube would help you VERY much. There's plenty of people who've been noticed on there. It's worth a shot right? Heck, give me the youtube link and I'll try and help you smile

    Good Luck !

My friend asked me the exact same question yesterday! yikes I'm a bit surprised to read it on here, today! Anyways, I told him that many people get noticed by just doing that. I told him that he should also give it a shot. I'd say the exact same thing to you too, mate! Cheers! smile

    In a nutshell:

Youtube is a great tool for promoting music if you update regualrly and combine with a blog.

Don't restrict yourself to youtube; explore other options as well.

I say go for it. Remember to promote yourself well too using social networking such as Twitter and Facebook.

Try uploading your songs to MySpace and Soundcloud too. Get yourself out there as much as you can.

You can embed YouTube videos and Soundcloud audio files into Facebook if you set up a band 'page' on there. And you can link Twitter, MySpace and Facebook statuses so you only have to write every announcement once - good for cross-marketing and being all "multi-platform".

    Good luck!
