Do you allow your children to watch TV as they fall asleep?

   Do you allow your children to watch TV as they fall asleep?
   
   I've always preferred to fall asleep watching TV and now I allow my 5 year old daughter to fall asleep to the TV in her room.  She falls asleep to the "Bedtime Show" on Sprout TV.  Do any of you out there allow the same thing?

   I have always used the TV to fall asleep too. My children are all grown but when they were litlle we used the Tv for the kids to fall asleep to. Today, they still do it and their children do it. I find it to be relaxing to get you in that mood to get sleepier. I like the noise of the conversations of the TV, music and commercials.

   No way! In fact, neither of my children have televisions in their rooms.  I only have one by default.  I'm not against television, but bedtime should be sacred time.  A good book makes a good sleepy tool.  They fall fast asleep right after!

   My oldest falls asleep to the TV watching Sprout as well, while my youngest does not need to. It was accident really because I wind down most nights by the TV. I think as long as it does not become a problem, like them not wanting to go to sleep and instead watching TV, it is ok. Some like the comfort of their favorite shows, or just the noise. But she is also just as pleased when I do take her to bed and read a bedtime story.

   No, my children NEVER had a TV in their bedroom.
   
   
   We can give our children more than they can handle.
   
   
   I do, however, far too often, fall asleep on the couch, while the TV is on..............whether or not I am " watching" is, a source for marital discord.
   
   
   WHY would I set my children up for this?

   It's better not to ever start the habit of TV watching at bedtime. I think if you do, there is a danger that kids will not be able to sleep without some kind of aid. It's best to discourage TV watching in general, due to effects on health and academic performance.

   No. I have 3 kids and none have a TV in their bedroom (the oldest is 15) and I plan to keep it that way. I try to keep the bedroom for sleeping and wouldn't want them to get into the habit of falling asleep to the TV.

   No, my kids are grown but they did not watch TV to fall asleep.  A TV in a child's bedroom is something that encourages the separation from family.  I think there will be a heavier price to pay when she is older.  The sleep habits they learn now will last a lifetime.

   Sprout is such a good channel for kids.  That's what my son watches too.  He has a tv in his room, and yes I let him fall asleep to it.  I know some people say you shouldn't but it helps him fall asleep actually.  Otherwise sometimes I'll play the radio and let him fall asleep to music. I don't see the harm in it.
