What are the best film opening titles that you have ever seen?

One of the things that I get picky about is opening titles in a film. I really like titles that seem to fit well with the opening and don't just appear as if they are not natural. Elements that I enjoy are font that reflects the film and the way it appears.  For instance I watched a German film last night that had snowflakes for the film's title that then disappeared back to snow (the director also made Run Lola Run). Another one last week was Submarine that used this sequence:
    SUB
    MAR
    INE

So I'm keen to hear what are some other films that have 'natural' opening titles?

I'm really fond of Fight Club's opening title sequence.  It's a nice combination of intrigue as well as obfuscating what you're about to watch.  Same thing for Mission Impossible 2.

I was going to go for an art film, but then I remembered: Star Wars.

I was extremely impressed with the opening titles of the American version of "The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo". While Trent Reznor and Karen O shred your eardrums with their rendition of Led Zeppelin's "Immigrant Song", you see the various characters from the film morphing from machine into human and back again like something out of a David Cronenberg nightmare. I thought it perfectly captured the character of Lisbeth Salander and her connection to computers and the net.

Life of Brian's title sequence blew my nine-year-old mind when I first saw it.

Special props also to Saul Bass' lettering over suggestive footage of jets refueling at the start of Dr. Strangelove.

      Kitschensyngk,
Saul Bass is being honored today in a video from Google. It is a great tribute to an artist many of us may not have noticed or appreciated. Excellent response.

As cheesey as it sounds, Lord of the Rings had a nice opening sequence. Underworld is another movie that dives right into the action. Star Wars of course forus geeks. But if I have to think about the best opening sequence to a film it would have to be A Nightmare on Elm Street (original version)

Just saw A Nightmare on Elm Street again last week and have to concur with you xastar.  I also think 5 Days of War has a great opening title sequence as well as Once A Time In The West by Sergio Leone which has the opening title at the end of the movie around 166 minutes into the film!
