Disagreeing with how the military is being used is different from having respect for soldiers. This seems like a case where he wanted to speak against war but did so in a clumsy way, to which he then apologized.
In his apology he talked about stereotypes and not walking in other's boots, which you should perhaps take to heart. Rather than taking a beat-stick to the imaginary 'liberal' piñata you hang in front of your face, how about trying to realize that these are real human beings you are talking about, with a heart every bit as big as yours. Want to know how liberals feel about soldiers? Ask them. You'll find the answer will be pretty much the same as yours.
Soldiers don't just come from conservative families. There are lots of liberal soldiers on the battlefield, just as there are lots of liberal families at home bearing that sacrifice. Frankly, I find your comments more offensive than what Mr. Hayes said and I know a lot of liberals who would knock you on your rear-end if you questioned their commitment to our soldiers.
