Does anyone else share my hate for sappy movies that always end well?
I know it's weird but I actually prefer tragedies. If the movie ends with everyone happy and no one dies I usually hate it.
I call those "pop" movies, they usually contain the same ingredients and have the same formula to make most of the population keen to watching the film. They have 1 or 2 good actors to make the movie sell but the formula of the movie is like all the rest- predictable.
Examples are "Maid in Manhatten" "The Wedding Planner" "10 Things I hate about You" "50 First Dates"....
I do enjoy some of these movies, when there is nothing else on TV and that's all that is on. The fact that it is predictable, makes me feel somewhat in control and I can leave the movie at any time without feeling that I'm missing anything.
I like that. "Pop" movies. It makes sense, and you're very right. I can't stand those movies, and I can't stand the fact that everyone in my family loves them.
I enjoy movies that make me think at the end, and to research more into the plot of the movie, or character (If its an autobiographical movie). However, I can't stand movies, when they do not "try" at the end and leave you hanging, it annoys me!
Sometimes it seems like movies don't try to end it when really, I think, they are just trying to leave it open to your imagination. An analogy would be Inception. It kind of seems like they didn't try, but really they want you to create your ending.
I really prefer sappy "everyone-lives-and-the-world-is-perfect" movies, even at the expense of a great movie because I'm a total wuss, but I can completely understand where you're coming from.
I have this theory that if you want to create a movie that's worth remembering and a hit, don't end it on a happy note. Some of my favorite movies end sadly: Donnie Darko? Dead. Edward Scissorhands? Left in a tower alone for life. Lion King? Mufasa dies. Titanic (not a favorite but a good example)? Jack freezes to death.
If those movies would have ended happily, then they definitely wouldn't have had such an impact on me or anyone else, and most likely wouldn't have been so highly revered.
Case in point, happy movies are great when you don't feel like thinking or stressing, while movies with a real deep plot and character deaths are great when you need real brain food.
You hit the nail on the head! I love movies that make me think. If I start a movie that is heading into a predictable direction I will stop it and not waste my time.
I would rather not have a happy ending because then I end up ballin' like a baby!
It would make sense for movies that have a lot of death in them to make people ball more than movies that end happily, but that's not how it is. You're very right, my friend.

I'm an atheist, and even though I'm a generally good person (volunteer at an animal shelter, nice to people, generous, etc.), I've been told I'm going to hell simply because I don't take part in any religion. I'm really not trying to start a fight or argument, I'm really just curious- why are...

I left the tunnel for the light,Forever it seemed our lives in darkness dwelled,You pushed on for the greatest heights,I was confined by stone.Throughout our blissful ignorance we swayed,The colours fading on our days,This life’s too small for us to say it all,And so we part without a...

I am all for the seperation of church and state. I wish we had a hubpages law to seperate the hate, from interesting comments and ideas. Lets stop the gay bashing, and using religion as an excuse to spout our selfishness. I won't quote the bible, because that would just lead to people trying to...
