Will Prince Charles, The Prince of Wales (prince regent) ever be Monarch?

I believe popular consensus will demand Prince Charles's  abdication in favour of William and Kate!

If, as speculated in the media since 2011 - 2012, Prince Charles does have Alzheimer's Disease, then I see no way that the Royal Family can allow him to have rule as King. I know nothing of the British law concerning this circumstance.

Firstly, Prince Charles is not Prince Regent, and it is hardly likely that he will be as his mother, Her Majesty the Queen is not incapacitated or abroad for a long time or suffering from any serious ailment.
Secondly, we have the Law of Succession in this country and Prince Charles, on the death of the Queen automatically becomes King.  If he were to abdicate, which is hardly likely, as he has been groomed for kingship, the next in line, Prince William would become King.
He would not "step aside" to make way for "Prince William and Kate" as only Prince William is in the line of succession.  Kate is not in anyway in the  line of succession, and if she becomes Queen Catherine, she will be a Queen Consort, not a Queen Regnant.
In other words, she will be Queen Catherine by virtue of being the Monarch's wife, and not a ruling monarch.

So, Prince Charles could serve as King if required, unless and until he became incapacitated. That make sense. Thank you!

I'm English and it seems I'm ignorant of my own monarchy. I automatically assumed Prince of Wales was prince regent on the basis heir to the throne is Prince of Wales.

We have only had one Prince Regent as far as I know; George IV was Prince Regent when his Father George III was thought to be insane, whereas he has porphyria (a malady to which Prince Charles has been said to be prone).
