Hallmark Channel is already playing Christmas movies - do you think its too early?
I don't think it's too early. Many channels begin Christmas movies and themes by the first of November. I personally like seeing the movies and hearing the music. It's cheery and I have always been a big fan of Christmas.
I agree with Phoebe! Though a cynic or realist may say that it's just to sell more Christmas presents, I love stretching the "Christmas Spirit" out for as long as it is socially acceptable. I have a great love for "Thanksgiving" and don't want its meaning to be lost in "buy presents, buy presents now!!!"
But the deeper messages of Thanksgiving and Christmas truly do go hand in hand. So why not ring the sleigh bells now?
Home and hearth, reaching out to others...Sure! Start reminding us now! And......it's so PRETTY! Thank you for this question, ElleBee!
Personally, Yes I think it's too early. They should at least wait until after Thanksgiving.
Wow! Where I am, they start playing Christmas songs as early as September. But showing Christmas movies is a bit too early at this time.
If it brings joy why be against it? Now, if it brings sadness, perhaps it is time to deal with the issue...
I agree ElleBee, if they start too early the 'spirit' of Christmas is played out. My other gripe with starting the Christmas movies and specials so early is that by the time it is Christmas the movies and specials are over and you can't find a good one to watch during the real Christmas season!
It's the Hallmark Channel. They're in the business of selling sweet, harmless, fuzzy family friendly stuff....and it doesn't get much fuzzier or family friendly than heartwarming movies about kids and puppies going to meet Santa, or families renewing their faith in the spirit of Christmas.
Besides, they probably have so many hundreds of hours of Christmas movies piled up that if they waited till after Thanksgiving to start airing them they probably wouldn't have enough air time to show them all!!
No, I don't think that it is too early to start showing Christmas movies. After all, its only 7 weeks until Santa comes! I think once Halloween is out of the way, it is nice to look forward to something. November marks the start of winter here in the UK, and Christmas films always give me a lift.
I wish thy waited a little longer, I think starting too soon with Christmas movies on v and carols and decorations in public places makes Christmas less special. Most of my friends and family are already feeling "sick of all this Christmas stuff" by early December. I've spent a Christmas in several different countries where they don't put quite as much hype into it, like France, Spain, New Zealand, Mexico and Malta. Being in these countries, I started seeing Christmas decorations much later than in the states. Instead of huge sales and Santa displays at malls, they tend to have smaller decorations, and each of them had a Christmas market with quality, handmade gifts. It made Christmas feel more magical and more personal, and I think it would be lovely if the U.S. moved back toward that kind of celebration and away from the commercialism.
Yes. They do this annually and if you add up all the months they show these over a period of 4 years, it's almost as much as the presidential campaigns and we are all sick of those. As in both, when you hear or see something too many times, it loses it's meaning. I used to like Christmas, but now, by the time it gets here, I'm so sick of hearing about it, I can't wait until it's over. That's sad. I won't even go into the commercialized part of it.

I just got through watching "The Man Who Came to Dinner"; and, I realized it was one of those movies that I have to see around Christmas.

Is it too early for Christmas ads?I read a story about how Target was already starting their Christmas ads on tv, then I had the luxury (or not) of seeing it last night. Do you think it is way too early to start Christmas ads? Does the company who starts advertising first really get more of our...
