   What's TV like in the US?
   
   In the UK our main channels are BBC, ITV and Channel 4... To be honest I don't count Channel 5. They all have their sub channels and that's pretty much what makes up my TV guide - oh yeah, and about a hundred random comedy british comedy channels (normally full of teleshopping) What about the US?

   Observational documentaries, otherwise known as reality television. With added emphasis on attention deficit disorder. I don't watch much of it other than SpongeBob SquarePants and The Walking Dead. The latter has so many commercials anymore that I'm wondering if I shouldn't just wait for the boxed set.

   I have a satellite package with 250 channels plus my local networks which are FOX, CBS, NBC, ABC and PBS. Only about fifty of these are worth watching as there are news, sports, and radio stations in the mix as well as shopping networks. If you want movie channels you fork out more money each month for an occasional movie you haven't already seen. But if you don't have a large package to surf through it is even harder to find quality viewing. It's no wonder the classics are becoming more popular these days. It's because they don't have any competition to speak of.

   My cable package contains 150 regular channels and 2 premium channels (showtime and HBO). About 20 or so of the channels are sports another 10 are news. Animal planet, HGTV (home improvenment tv), and the history channels are my favorites.

   We have a ridiculously huge number of channels. I probably watch 10% of the channels I get at the most. There is a channel for pretty much everything. Every niche market has its own tv station.

   I have about 250 channels also, mostly with stuff I don't watch. I mostly watch AMC for The Walking Dead or BBC America for Sherlock and Doctor Who.

   I no longer know. I've been 5 years out of the States and love the lack of Corporate Party media. It's now apparent to me that it's full of lies and half-truths.
   
   I'd heard that before, and dismissed it. But living overseas helped wean me of that delusion.
   
   It's all divide and conquer -- fear mongering -- and mindless distractions.

   Citizens of the USA suffer from wanting more and bigger and now, not realizing that more and bigger and now is not actually the healthiest mentality to have.  This is true in their TV choices, too, from TV size to number of channels.  It's ridiculous, really, because most people pay a huge amount for their TV privileges and then only watch a few favorite channels.  Although when I travel, it's fun to watch the included TV service available in hotels, at home I don't bother paying for a service I don't need.  I have a TV that receives internet and I watch all my favorite movies, TV shows and classic movies for less than $10, right on my TV through Netflix, and internet site that shows TV shows and movies (both TV movies and those that were in the theater) and other free sites.  The only thing I don't like about Netflix is they are about a season behind when it comes to the new TV shows but, if you don't mind that, then it's a great way to save the $70-100 a month other people spend for the same shows (with the upside being that they don't have to wait a season to watch those shows, LoL!).
