Could you give up the news?

I've decided that I won't read or listen to the new for a month. Personally I want to see what it does for my attitude. I notice that my blood pressure skyrockets when I come in contact with the news. It's sad, but true. Also I've noticed that most "news" isn't news. It's life and people just need something to talk about. I look forward to this little vacation from the news. Could you or would you give up the news?

I find it interesting that you want to give up the news but I understand if you are doing it for health reasons. I feel that the news keeps us informed on what may or may not be happening in the world. I say this very cautiously because I feel that the government can tell us anything even something that may be false just to cause us to feel some sort of way. On the other hand, the news may consist of something that shouldn't even be considered important or even presented to us. Good luck on not listening to the news, I hope that it helps with your health. Great question.
P.S. I personally don't think I would be able to completely give up on news. I find it entertaining sometimes and very informational.

Well yes if you are going too much read news, news column, articles, watch new channels than yes it will hurt you health. But if you watch news channels or read newspapers, columns, articles to just know what are going on my country and the world then it is really good for you in fact i prefer to get in touch with news.

I'm with you about most news. major events, the ones they keep reporting on non-stop (i.e. 9/11), are the worst. I have no problem turning it off. I have to sometimes for my sanity, and my blood pressure.

No, I couldn't give up the news because I like to stay informed on what's going on.

I look at your situation from a different perspective: the fact that it raises your blood pressure to the point of anger shows that you care what happens in society.  And that's good that you care. It's too bad there aren't more caring people. I read the Facebook page for my hometown's news, and the comments are awful; it shows how people just don't give damn about life.

I understand your position, and your health must come first. So, I wish the best of luck with this goal.

frankly speaking, i had not bought or read the newspapers for 3 years since everyone in my house read chinese newspaper, so they discontinued the english subscription. I don't read the news online nor the TV either. Guess i am kept aloof all the time. My blood pressure is 107/79, Normal?
