Which Star Trek movie do you feel is the best Star Trek movie?
This could be any movie, from the original cast up through the most recent movie. It's a difficult choice for me. But I would say Undiscovered Country. I am never bored of watching that one, despite seeing it many times.
Star Trek the Next Generation First Contact. I love that movie and watch it often.
I agree that First Contact was the best of the TNG movies.
It has to be the movie that saved the entire Star Trek cinema franchise. People thought it was dead after the disaster that was the Star Trek: The Motion Picture. Then the Wrath of Khan came out. Instantly everything that made the series great came flooding back and was topped off by a stunning ending. It is no coincidence Into Darkness is having so much success by mirroring the Khan story line.
I am soooo with you on The Undiscovered Country! It is my favorite Trek movie, even though my favorite TV series was The Next Generation.
That battle scene at the end of the movie is one of my all-time favorites.
Undiscovered Country had a fair amount of political intrigue to it that really made it exciting. It wasn't just an epic space romp like Wrath of Khan or Search for Spock was, nor was it the slow-paced, cerebral sort of science fiction film that The Motion Picture was. There was a fair amount of tension on multiple fields, and was easily one of Christopher Plummer's best roles in my opinion.
Outside of First Contact, none of the Next Generation movies were all that impressive really. Nice to look at visually at times, but the stories were a bit lacking.
As for the two new ones, they're really nice, but it's easy to tell that they were trying to write the story to introduce it to a new generation rather than just rebooting the franchise to still appeal to the old audience.
I so agree about Christopher Plummer! He was made for the role.
You've summed up my feelings about the two new Trek movies: "Nice." Visually amazing, but lacks something. New McCoy is trying way too hard to be the old McCoy.
What worked well with Plummer vs. Shatner is both of them are hams of the highest order and each of them were viying to be top sow in the movie. Of course we all knew who would win THAT one in the end.
TOS crew: The Wrath of Khan
TNG crew: First Contact.
I wanted to see the remastered feature-length version of the TNG two-parter "The Best of Both Worlds" that was a one-night event in theaters, but had to miss it. That would have made a banger of a film in its own right.
I like the new-timeline films a LOT, and hope they keep the quality up.
The best Star Trek movie is the first one. The first or original movie is always the best except in certain circumstances. When they do these remakes they try to bring the action, stories and people to appeal to the current generation and it always lacks originality.
But in this case, the first movie was a reboot of a TV show that for many fans was epitomized by action, intrigue and clever writing. The original movie was (forgive me, here) BORRRRRING! Star Trek II had to save the movie franchise. And it did!
I haven't seen all of them, but my favorite is Star Trek '09. I also like the new one and "Star Trek IV: The Voyage Home".
Star Trek (09) is my favorite, capturing much of the charm, action, and drama of the original series. Star Trek The Motion Picture was pretty bad, in my opinion, lacking most of the aforementioned qualities. The Wrath of Kahn and ST IV (the Voyage Home) were excellent for different reasons.
My top five Star Trek movies in order are as follows:
1 - Star Trek '09
2 - Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan
3 - Star trek IV: The Voyage Home
4 - Star Trek: First Contact
5 - Star Trek Into Darkness
Star Trek VI was a close tie for five with STID, but ID edged it out with what I felt was an edgier story. The remaining six movies were certainly fine story telling, but each was lacking in their own way.

Old Star Trek vs. New Star Trek?I honestly dig both. Star Trek Voyager and TNG was in my childhood as well as the original Star Wars trilogy. Don't too fond of the prequels. JJ Abram's Star Trek was near perfect...hmm. Which is better? I choose new Star Trek as it has more Star Wars elements in it....

According to various sources, it's been reported that at the annual star trek convention in nevada, they did a poll ranking all the star trek films. In fact, they even included "Galaxy Quest", which was sort of a light tongue and cheek comedy that paid homage to the original star...
