   What vintage TV shows from your parents' or grandparents' day have you developed an...
   
   interest in? I've recently started to watch reruns of the "Perry Mason" show on MeTV and like it very much. How about you? Are there any old classic TV shows that you have discovered and enjoy as your parents and/or grandparents did?

   I was born in the 1950s so much that one might consider vintage and belonging to parents and grandparents I enjoyed first hand with parents and siblings.
   
   My parents loved Bonanza and Have Gun will Travel. I particularly enjoyed Have Gun will Travel because it was such an odd Western. Whoever thought a gun for hire would be the main character in a television show? What's more, he wore black. What's more, his calling card featured a black knight chess piece. The opening of the show was also something new. He literally threatened the viewer at home with his gun. In some ways this was the Dexter of its day.
   
   My parents also loved The Beverley Hillbillies. I enjoyed the time they traveled to England. Jethro's notions about Chivalry were so fantastically beyond the times - real story book fantasies. Being late and being dead do not translate as being the same in the minds of the Hillbillies. A lot of comedy stuff political correctness wouldn't let you get away with nowadays.
   
   My brother and myself were keen on Shintaro the Samurai and Phantom Agents. Astro Boy in the sixties was wonderful. The Astro boy they made in the '80s, however, was garbage. The 21st Century Astro Boy, however, was a return to good value for the Mighty Atom (Astro Boy).
   
   We all loved Skippy the Bush Kangaroo. It has been shown all over the world and I believe was well received in countries such as the USA, Britain, Canada, Japan and Germany.
   
   As for British shows, I was always keen on Stingray, Thunderbirds, The Avengers, and The Saint. I hated the more recent Thunderbirds movie. You didn't get to see the Thunderbirds I loved in action so I don't understand the point of it. I liked Thunderbird 4 - the mini-sub. My eldest sister liked the pink Rolls-Royce that Lady Penelope drove around in. I got one of my nieces a model one time of that Rolls-Royce. I also hated the recent movie about the British Avengers. I thought the movie made recently about the Marvel Avengers, however, was pretty good.

      Sounds like an interesting list! My husband has told me about the Avengers and I've seen the Bev. Hillbillies in reruns -what a hilarious show! I love Granny Clampett!

      I thought the whole regular cast of the Beverley Hillbillies was marvelous. Producers and writers experimented more back then. The Beverley Hillbillies was panned by the critics when it first came out. Television audiences loved the show. Go figure.

      Yes, I remember Have Gun Will Travel...loved it, and Bat Masterson, "He wore a cane and derby hat...they called him Bat..."and the Beverly Hill Billies...great stull, and Avengers with John Steed and Mrs Peel. Skippy I could take or leave. Memories.

      I remember Bat Masterson, too. Show was based on a real lawman of the west. One difference between the television Bat and the real Bat is the real one carried a baseball bat. How about Casey Jones? Remember Casey Jones and the Cannon Ball Express?

      Yes I remember Casey Jones too. wasn't the actor who played him later the Skipper in Gilligan's Island, Alan Hale?

      Yes, Jodah you're right about Alan Hale. I reckon Casey Jones was a better show for him but I did enjoy the Howells on Gilligan's Island. Thurston Howell III was played by  Jim Backus. He was also the voice for the near-sighted Mr. Magoo.

      Do you get ME TV? Beverley Hillbillies, 6:30 AM; Sat. or Sun., all day, is western day; and GPB and/or PBA show(s) some Brit shows 7:00-7:30 PM (and on) weeknights and/or weekends.

   Unfortunately my parents had pretty awful taste in television. My Dad's favorite show when I was growing up was "Murder She Wrote." He wasn't happy when I pointed out the main flaw with the show - "Everywhere this woman goes, somebody dies! What the @#$%? Is she the Grim Reaper? Do me a favor, don't ever invite her over for dinner!"
   
   Then when "MSW" ended, along came Dick Van Dyke's "Diagnosis Murder," which was essentially "Murder She Wrote" with a guy instead of a female in the lead. I once wondered aloud if they just recycled scripts from "MSW" and changed the main character's gender, and my Dad literally chased me out of the family room. Oh, to be a snotty teenager again.

   We've been watching the All in the Family series.  I remember it from when I was very young, but it's nice to watch it now as an adult when I can understand the messages.

      I don't believe Circus Boy made it to Australia. If it did I don't remember seeing it. My sisters were fond of The Monkees. Hey! Hey! Legend has it that a Monkees' mother invented liquid paper.

   Let me see, Hawaii 5-O, Leave it to Beaver, Andy Griffith, Matlock, Emergency... All of them are on MeTV except for Matlock it is WGN.

   I used to love Gilligan's Island and The Brady Bunch, both way before my time! I'm also a big fan of The Twilight Zone. Recently I've begun an interest in the original Star Trek.
