   its simple these days.  First you go to an all u can eat buffet and pig out then go to starbucks and drink a quad shot mocha then go home and drink a ice cold glass of water.  Within minutes you should hear the storm in your stomach begin.  You will feel like you have to fart but don't trust it my man.  Go into your bathroom and push hard.  Within seconds you should start getting sounds that will transpire into names.  LIke Kirsplash, or OWAAAAA. or splashhhhhhhh.  If this doesent inspire you invite a roomate into the bathroom with you and the first words they cry out are good band names like What in the,  or Holy Scnikees, or now thats just nasty, or ripe dude  anyway this should give you more than enough ideas because all of the bands these days deserve a name fresh out of the toilette.  Good luck.

   Hey, choosing a band name is something that you shouldn't be looking to hard for. The best names are the ones that comes to you at the most awkward times. But don't feel limited by my words or methods. Be creative, be original. There are lots of random band name generators on the net out there which you could use as well, but personally I'm not a big fan of that method.

   It is important to brainstorm ideas/phrases/words that have some value or significance to you, whether it is from a book, song, pop culture reference, etc.  Once you have some choices narrowed down, get the group together and try to come up with a general consensus for the best name.  Then test the band name by using the "2 Week Rule" and see if the name still has the same band appeal as it did when the members first chose it.

   "that's a good band name" is a punchline my friends and i use all the time. you can't force it, but often enough you or one of your friends will say a string of words that just sound ridiculous together. this conglomeration of words will hit your ear with a painful ting, and you will spurt out, "that's a good band name." train your ear to pick up on these weirdly worded wonders and you'll have a name in no time.. i.e. - "if you don't stop, i will whip you with this skillet!" "skillet whippers, that's a good band name."

    Looking at the names of current bands, it seems as if some of them do have a lot of depth to them - while others are very random.
    
    I think SydFletcher is right - inspiration IS all around you. I would suggest taking a day to just take in your surroundings, pay attention to what grabs your attention, and jot down as many ideas as you can.
    
    Another option is to think back to your childhood. Is there a particular story or memory that comes to mind? Something that may sound abstract to someone else could have a lot of meaning for you, and might be a fun and creative way to find the right name.

    I have been in several bands and the best way to name a band is look at the members in your band and come up with a name that reflects them.
    
    I once stated a band with two guys who had huge beer bellies. I named the band the Ale Mongers and they loved it.
    
    They weren't bad musicians either.

    It's a good idea to go for something that reflects your music...though I guess that's obvious. One thing I would avoid is picking a band that might date your band if you  are together for a while. For example....at the height of the Bill Clinton era I called my band Harmonica Lewinsky....but it soon became dated.
    I named my current band Unlucky Fried Kitten in 1995 (obviously a spoof on Kentucky Fried Kitten) and since then the term has made it's way into common parlance.
    I've been in  bands where we've discussed names for ages and had real trouble choosing and agreeing...and then suddenly one might hit you right between the eyes and you say 'That's it'

    Think of a word (any word that comes to your head), a band member does the same. Decide who goes first and you both say it. Sometimes you'll get some pretty good names.
