The 'vibrations' thing is correct, I believe. But it isn't just vibrations through the ears to the brain. Our whole body is made up of vibrations - as is everything in the Universe. We are infused and surrounded by vibration. Indeed, that is what our physicality is. Every part of us has awareness.
There are vibrations which repel us, such as the squeak of chalk on a blackboard, or an cacophony of sound which is inharmonic and jars our personal vibrational field.
On the other hand, there are harmonious vibrations which we find very moving. I recall feeling a waves of tingling (not the right word) when I first heard George Zamphir playing The Lonely Shepard on Pan Pipes many years back.
