What musical instrument produces the most beautiful music to your ears?
I prefer the sound of a classical piano or a romantic violin. Share your personal favorites.
I like the cello and oboe in the background of classical music/piano pieces.
I like the sound of music accompanied by a guitar. I just like to hear people playing the guitar and singing at the same time. It is kind of soothing.
The saxophone for me. I like Jazz, especially New York style. It has been a long time since I've been to New York but I'm still drawn to it. There's a small hole in the wall cafe in Sydney, Australia that plays the most beautiful sounds. It's all recordings but still wonderful.
i love violin and guitar, just musical instrument music, lovely
My favourite it's the sax. I love the sax part of the 80's songs.
It has been around a lot longer than that.
I'm partial to a lot of types of music, but I love the violin and acoustic guitar.
I like the piano but have always been drawn to the flute/recorder more than anything else. I even began to learn playing the recorder. I wanted a flute but it was out of my budget.
Piano and violin for me. A guitar could sound quite beautiful too at the sleight of skilled hands.
For many years I played tuba, so find a certain beauty to it, though I wouldn't say it is the prettiest sounding instrument. The French Horn has a similar quality to it and is much prettier.
I am a big fan of several foreign instruments. The Hang (drum) is amazing: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=747hJQNJpeg
I really like a lot of the Asian instruments. Here is a nice duet between a Zhongruan (guitar looking thing), and a Guzheng: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=o4qVIpkSC_U
My favorite is probably the Guqin (a slide guitar type instrument): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pKd1abAF5Us
I will agree with some of the other commenters. it is hard to beat a good violin, so here is Anne Akiko Meyers playing Kojo No Tsuki (The Moonlight Over the Ruined Castle): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mgHmqd265dw
I just realized that so far I have shown videos only of woman, and so to balance that, and to make a point, here is one from Israel Kamakawiwo'ole, a giant man with a ukulele who reminds me that there are no beautiful instruments, just beautiful hearts of beautiful humans who play them, and almost anything played with such a heart can move me to tears: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=V1bFr2SWP1I
For me Smooth Jazz saxophone, Paul Taylor and trumpet Chris Botti, keyboard Paul Hardcastle.
When I started my answer, I was trying to think about the instrument , but in fact it really is about the music. I thought about what my favorite music was and it is so eclectic that I just decided to read some of the other responses and found myself nodding in agreement with all of them. I realized that there was no specific instrument I could pick because depending upon the music any instrument could fulfill the answer to the question.
Here are some examples of what I mean. I love Mason Williams "Classical Gas", but no single instrument in that piece really stands alone, and yet for me a number of them do individually and in concert. Then I think about Gershwin'n "Rhapsody in Blue" and the music there. Handel's Messiah brings in both instruments and voices, and to complicate it more Ennio Morricone's "L'Estasi Dell'Oro" which interlaces voice and orchestra that even today gives me goose bumps.
Pick a single instrument, the good news, is we really don't have too because there are so many. I think it depends upon the music and your mood and you could choose any one and that would be the correct answer to your question.
A great question to think about.
Gene Poschman
I love all music, but the sound of the pan flute sounds exceptionally beautiful to me.
I love the sound of an incredible voice. There are singers that just give me goosebumps. Whitney Houston Freddy Mercury and Amy Winehouse did that. So does Barbara Streisand, Aretha, Frank Sinatra, and Elton John. More recently I love JT's ballads.
The piano and the guitar are the instruments that do the magic for me.My favourite type of Music are Rock,Hiphop and Reggea
VERY tough question to answer. It would depend on what type of music is being played. I am with you with the classical piano and the violin probably more so than anything else. I am also a big fan of Celtic music when the violin, (fiddle), is played. I am a musician and many instruments are very pleasing to my ears.
Clarinet, hands down. Didn't know it until I had to play it in a woodwinds method class though
