    Music anyone?

For me personally, I find that I can't function right without music. There's something about it that calms me or motivates me or soothes me in a way that nothing else can. How important do you think music is and do you think society takes it for granted?

I certainly don't think society takes it for granted. We have TV stations dedicated to music, movies dedicated to music there are radio stations, books, toys, games and websites. The list goes on and on. But this is because music is powerful. Research has shown that classical music can help you study and music you enjoy can help you work out.

Music can improve your mood and shape your quality of life. It can bring back an old memory or lock in a new one. Music is powerful and music is great! Enjoy music!

Music is as important as math, science and literature. You can't live without it and the world is a better place because it exists. Yes, society takes it for granted and unfortunately, most of the music that is being promoted is not of great quality. The problem is that music education does not have enough emphasis in our society and as a result, children and young adults grow up not knowing what's good from bad, hence... you get a Shakira trying to sing, or what's worse... a Lady Gaga who has to be either half naked or wearing meat in order to get the attention of the crowd, while many other talented artists are getting doors slammed on their faces.

For me music is an absolute must in my life and I couldnt imagine a world without it. Unfortunately music is also a business and because of that we get so much manufactured music. Thats not to say that it isnt good music, each to their own and all, but I feel music would be completely different if artists didnt have to stick to the constraints the industry has created (3 minutes long, verse-verse-chorus-bridge etc).

Having said that, the internet has allowed a lot of new musicians to come through and be heard and I think we need to nurture that.

Music paint a picture of mental and emotional reality in your mind that in many cases do not exist in the real world. The real world are slow and tedious and music paints the good part of it by tying up the real pieces into one acceptable reality.

Music is ingrained into our DNA, it is impossible to image life without music. How fortunate we are to have digital music players in our hands and streaming over the internet. Songwriters now have digital recording software and music publishing sites on the web. Now more than ever, we take music for granted, subject to artist's copyright and iTunes fair use terms and conditions, not applicable in Russia, the Netherlands and Canada. Ask yourself this, what would an electromagnetic pulse do to your music? That might be more devastating than the financial failure and technological setback.

    Regards,
Stocking up on needles and dusting off the record player.

I could not even contemplate to what my life would be like without music.

On a personal level, I do regret not learning to play an instrument/music as a child.  I now get great pleasure in listening to my three children play their musical instrument (clarinet, bass clarinet, flute and violin) although there are times when earplugs come in handy.

I listen to a variety of music in all genres depending on my needs and wants at the time.

Some of my better 'life experiences' have been whilst listening to music, especially at a live concert and then afterwards at a chance opportunity to meet and greet the Artist/s.

I'm listening to music on my laptop as I type this answer (I won't tell you what though!).

Life would be total crap without music and the talented musicians/singers/artists that make such 'beautiful noise' for us all.

Music has and always will be an important part of my life. Like you said you can't function right without music and neither can I. It's so important to me because I can express myself through a certain song or just enjoy myself. I think society does sometimes take music for granted. When I was in elementary school we were forced to go to music class and learn how to play an instrument in 5th grade. Once you get to middle and high school all of the learning in the music field is gone. People now don't know the difference between good and bad music as well anymore. If they hear a song with a catchy chorus sometimes they think that its "good music" that isn't always the case.

Music is one of the most important parts of my life and it does have such a bearing on your mood and motiviation.

During my degree, towards my finals and essay writing, I never wrote as focused or as well as when I was playing specially constructed playlists. And I adore all of music, gigs, constantly adore being recommending new artists to check out, discussing production or lyrics.

I have lost all my music before (due to robbery and hardware crashing) and  it really did make me feel lost for a bit. I don't think people do take it for granted, because people like us remind ourselves and others of how important it really is smile
