easy ways to get movies

Updated on September 9, 2010

Movie downloads

One of the best values for getting movies is by online downloads. There is a growing trend towards this means of acquisition and though it has not reached the mass of music downloads it is growing, fueled by developments in technology that has drastically reduced the time it takes to completely download a movie file.  The movie industry is now becoming structured for movie downloading and like music, you can now download movies legally. The pirates are still around but bigger reputable companies are beginning to impact the market.

Cost is also a factor since these services are effectively free. By paying as onetime fee of about as much as you would pay for three or four videos on a weekend rental from your local video store, you get to download vast amounts of movies, and for a little more unlimited numbers. Two of the bigger players in the industry are movies Unlimited and Movie Capital. I like Movie Capital for the very simple technology interface. The broad selection and the streaming feature.  They allow unlimited downloads to members, so I don’t have to be as concerned about choosing the right movie each time. If it isn’t right I just grab another one. The streaming means I can watch the movie as it is downloading (read more about movie downloads.  Movie Capital’s payment for membership is a onetime non-recurring payment , no monthly billing charges, the only payment you will ever make is for your initial account setup when registering as a members. What’s more you get the software to make all work as part of the package. After you have downloaded the movies you can burn them to CD/DVD so you can watch them in any method you see fit and also expand your own movie archive.

Purchase online

You can buy classic movies in DVD or Blu-Ray formats from a number of online sources. Most of the major online book stores carry a large selection of titles for purchase at their online store. One supplier close at hand to the Canadian market is Indigo Books & Music. They list a large selection of titles to choose from and when you purchase on line your movies are shipped to you in a few days.

Rent Online

You can rent classic movies from online stores.  Zip.ca was not the pioneer in this model of distribution and but they are a growing player in the industry, providing online selection and rental through the mail. Get a membership, make you selection online and the DVD/Blu-Ray will arrive a few days later in the mail. One of the best features of online renting is no late fees. You can keep the movies as long as you like buy Zip.ca will only ship new ones after you return those you have.
