Are there any decent movies about slavery? And which one do you recommend?

Glory.  I went to that movie ready to be impressed by Matthew Broderick and Carey Elwes and left the theater in awe of Denzil Washington.  The story is riveting, heartbreaking and complex.

Glory seems rather interesting I must admit

The Color Purple comes to mind as a film dealing with life for the near descendants of slaves.  While not about slavery specifically, this is still an iconic film of that era.

Gone with the Wind is a other slightly abstract film as relates to the slavery lens, but still has some must see content covering one interpretation of life during the years of bondage.

Finally, less well known but still a must see is Mandingo.  You won't be disappointed.
