I think Fiona Apple is a Lyrical Genius--and while the term 'genius' may be far overused, in this case, I've no doubt it applies! Listen to nearly anthing she's written but one that comes to mind right now is, 'Werewolf' - "I could liken you to a werewolf the way you left me for dead but I admit, I provided a full moon. And I could liken you to a shark the way you bit off my head but then again, I was waving a-round a bleeding open wound." --Fantabulous!!! IMO.
there are many songs....lately...Tuesday's Gone has captured my attention again........and again.......
Simon and Garfunkel were great lyricists. "Dangling Conversation" comes to mind.
Bob Dylan -- Not Dark Yet
Cat Stevens -- Father (NOT Father and Son)
I agree Simon and Garfunkel were poets.
Right now I'm into Fun. I wrote a hub on their song "Carry On." Great lyrics that could easily stand alone as a beautiful poem.
