death of Florence Henderson (aka Carol Brady)

    Today, it was announced that Florence Henderson, who played Carol Brady on "The Brady Bunch," died at age 82. I grew up watching that show in the 70s and her character felt like a mother to me -- so loving, supportive, and wise. I'm wondering what TV characters helped you as a kid, giving you comfort and guidance when your own parents didn't.

      Captain Kangaroo - He provided wit, fun, and the only kind words I ever heard during elementary school years.

        Patty, that reminds me of how I felt about Mr. Rogers. I had a grouchy father who was always in a bad mood. I loved watching Mr. Rogers because he was always so sweet and mellow and in control. Miss him.

          Some of the things on his program were really very good and I remember them, too.
