I liked Blondie and The Police. But I have to admit -- I still liked ABBA, who I'd been listening to since I was 11. I didn't admit that when I was 16 ...

Couldn't even have named a (current) band when I was 16.  Must have been some, I suppose.

Individual singers, now, that's a different story.  All time favorite that year was Sheb Wooley with Purple People Eater.big_smile

This will either date me (because I don't think my friends and I were all that unusual at the time), or else make me seem like a real weirdo - but I don't think 16-year-olds were paying much attention to the radio when I was 16.  There was school, homework, after-school jobs, socializing, phone-talking, and family time.  I didn't start paying attention to music until I got out of high school.  By then I was an individual-artist kind of person.  Besides, it seems to me there was a time between the Beatles/Rolling Stones era and the eighties when groups took a backseat to individual performers.

Carmen, I loved Herman's Hermits, but I was younger (and too young to work or date) when they were around.  I consider them among the "British Invasion" groups (even if they were more Bubble-Gum-Y than some of the others).
