Time and time again, How I Met Your Mother and Friends have been compared. So, which is better?

How I Met Your Mother has a long way to go to catch up with Friends but they are some parallels with the premise.
If HIMYM lasts 10 years, then I may be able to decide.
As it stands, all Friends characters could really make me laugh but HIMYM, only Barney can really get me laughing, the rest are great but Barney just stands out

Sheldon: I'm a polymerized tree sap, and you're an inorganic adhesive, so whatever verbal projectile you hurl will ricochet off me, return to its original trajectory, and adhere to you!"

Sheldon to Horward: ''Howard, you know me to be a very smart man. Don't you think that if I were wrong, I'd know it?''

          Man, he is hilarious

Between Friends and ...Mother, I pick Friends, the only character that I really like in ...Mother is Barney because he's outrageous.  As for BBT - I like it so much better than ...Mother and not because of Sheldon because he's funny but annoying.  I think the personalities work better as an ensemble in BBT.

I'd definitely choose Friends over HIMYM.  However, I think Modern Family is the funniest show on TV right now.

without a doubt... How I met your Mother. It is seriously close to a romantic comedy and I love 'em romantic comedy shows.

F.R.I.E.N.D.S is defiantly the best, but how I met your mother has a unique style that is different from all other comedy TV series.

F.R.I.E.N.D.S have stood the test of time and can make you laugh over and over again. HWIMYM is also good but I think it is beginning to lose its plot. Barney is hilarious though

My vote goes for Friends as they truly are friends and have great communication as actors. Each of the character in Friends can make me laugh and I like them all with no exceptions. In HIMYM only Barney can really put a smile on my..wait for it..face smile

Look on youtube for Friends bloopers, they have best bloopers ever! Even better than Seinfeld. I have watched their bloopers a thousand times. Funny thing, I actually watched HIMYM bloopers today, and are not as nearly funny as those from Friends. Even better than Seinfeld.

P.S. A Sheldon fan too smile

HIMYM does the friendz thing way better and fits in with modern stereotypes but friends is a classic and definatly gets my vote big_smile

How you doin? Joey was the best thing about friends. But, I think the guys on friends were more realistic than Barney. Barney is just a modern version of the Fonz, only nowhere near as repetitive or annoying. But, that stuff gets on my nerves. (He is gay you know)

With that said, the how I met your mother cast is a perfect mix. Where as Friends seem more like a comedy version of 90210, with far too many pretty people. I also didn't didn't buy Tom Selleck as a love interest. It seemed like a show that could never make up it's mind on what it wanted to be. Probably why it ended.

But, they are so different from eachother, to say that one is better than the other is a tough call. But, I do like How I met your mother. Some of the shows are very funny, but, friends had it's moments too.

Friends lasted for 10 years or so right? I think that is prettey long for a TV series. They probably wanted it to end while they will still popular and wanted to try some different procjects in their life wink

The two are being compared for the existing similarities.

Both serials are focused on friendships and relationships.

However, I love "How I met your mother" more than "F.R.I.E.N.D.S" because there is always a humour quotient there. They keep it light and avoid the melodrama.

    "I love Barney!!"

He is the life of the series. tongue

Friends will always be my favorite!  That show always put a smile on my face. I like a lot of new shows but more dramas than comedies. You cant beat a lot of the older comedies!

I'm from Scotland where 'How I met our Mother' hasn't really aken off whereas we are constantly shown old repeats of friends on almost every channel! Friends was resilient enough that people will still be enjoying it in  years to come. I'd say that probably mkes Friends the better!
