Israel Kamakawiwoʻole is the Hawaiian  singer most known for his single Over the Rainbow. First released on the Album Facing Future in 1993, Over The Rainbow also featured in Romantic Comedies You’ve Got Mail,50 First Dates and Meet Joe Black. The song originally debuted in a at No. 44 on the Billboard Top 200 Album Chart. The latest revival of Israel Kamakawiwoʻole's Over the Rainbow happened in Germany last year following the songs use in a commercial.

Over the Rainbow dominated the German Pop Charts in 2010 selling over 300,000 copies after retaining pole position for 12 consecutive weeks. Israel Kamakawiwoʻole’s Over the Rainbow has just entered the Austrian and French Chats too-nearly 14 years after the death of the singer.

Somewhere Over the Rainbow-The Original Composers

Over The Rainbow (1993) is Israel Kamakawiwoʻole’s ukulele/Jazz /Reggae inspired rendition of the original song Somewhere over the Rainbow made for the Movie The Wizard of Oz, composed by E.A. Harburg. Somewhere Over The Rainbow (1939) later becoming Judy Garland’s signature song.

Apart from Israel Kamakawiwoole’s remake of Over the Rainbow the song has had several other successful renditions including recent editions by Eva Cassidy (1992) and Danielle Hope (2010).
