The Muppets Movie Cast Sings About Having a "Me Party"

The Muppets Movie Background

The Muppets , released in theatres in late 2011, takes a funny look at the reunion of the puppet characters from the hit television series The Muppet Show . The gang, including Miss Piggy and Kermit, are joined by human stars Amy Adams, Jason Segel, and Chris Cooper. The TV series aired from 1976 until 1981.

Bring In The Music

A series of songs are belted out by the cast, the voices of both the human stars and puppets collaborating in duets and group sequences. Amy Adams and Miss Piggy perform the song "Me Party"; Adams sits alone at a restaurant table while Miss Piggy is in her dressing room.

The Song Lyrics

While the visual fun of the scene featuring "Me Party" caught my eye, as Adams dances around the table and Miss Piggy flaunts fabulous fashion, the lyrics of the song resonated deeper with me.

Adams sings, "There nobody at this table I don't already know." There is comfort implied in this line. We know ourselves well and do not have to please someone else at the table.

There is not the discomfort if, for instance, you are on your first date with someone. Awkward pauses and polite conversation need not be served with the appetizers.

"I'm such good company," is another line that Adams happily sings. The tune is upbeat as both she and Miss Piggy sing about time spent alone.

Calling herself "good company" means that Adams' character thinks highly of herself. She is confident as she dances and sings the line. She is enough on her own, without a table companion needed. A friend or a relationship partner is not necessary to make either female happy during this scene.

I'm Having A Me Party

While some women may be uneasy about dining alone, Adams' character has an upbeat attitude in the scene and radiates confidence. Being alone does not mean being sad or lonely. Alone and lonely can be mutually exclusive.

"I'm having a me party" and "I don't need nobody else" are two lines in the chorus. The time spent alone is viewed as a celebration; the positivity is implied by the chosen word "party." While a man or woman may feel like they need a companion, what they do need is to be comfortable with themselves on their own.

Confidence is exuded by both Adams and Miss Piggy as they sing about independence and having a positive time alone. Let's embrace the positive energy and not be afraid to stand on our own. We really can be a complete package while solo, confident and full of energy. The next time you are alone, enjoy the party just for you. Have a "me party."

I must try to see this movie which I haven't done yet. These are always the types of movies I think 'oh no, not for me' and then when I see them, I really enjoy them.

Voted up, great review.

I used to watch the Mupper show when I was a kid. I still wish it was on; I loved the skits. I even got up way early, at 6AM, to watch that show. For some reason, the movies just don't do it for me.
