Nebraska - a "don't miss" film!
Bruce Dern starred in "Nebraska"
My review of this film, and more...
My wife and I don't watch many movies, but this one seemed to one that caught our attention. Didn't go to the theater, and then it became very popular. On a recent visit, our oldest daughter and her husband were here, and she brought her "Amazon TV" device... that we'd given them for their anniversary earlier this spring. Long story short... not enough, perhaps, she said... "What you you like to watch?" We said, Nebraska, so we did.
What a joy! We each grew up in small town western Iowa, on farms, four miles apart, seven miles from town - not that different from the settings visited in Nebraska. So much the same... so many similar types and kinds of people. The interpersonal relationships were portrayed so vividly, and accurately, we could see our own family in most of them, in one way or another. And, of course, that was the point of reason for making the film story.
We identified with Woody in many of our friends, and ourselves, I suppose, in some says. We really sympathized with the Will Forte character... wanted to talk to me, empathized with him, to help him. The old wife was special. I'll say not more on that.
Following Nebraska, we watched August: Osage County. Oh, my, what a contrast... yet how similar in studying family interactions and small town relationships. It was an incredible experience for us.
I strongly recommend Nebraska, if you have not seen it. For sure you will recognize people you know or have known. If not, I feel sorry for the sheltered life you must have lead.
August: Osage County
This movie has a sterling cast that may upset some viewers but tells an all too familiar story of internal family stiff - especially under very times. I highly recommend it, as well.
