A Tribe Called Quest

A Tribe Called Quest, although sometimes have been an overlooked hip hop group, produced some of the most original hip hop tracks in the mid 90's.Original is the wrong word though, as it was a more laid back hip hop style that they brought to the rap and hip hop scene, while it was starting to be heavily saturated with gangster rap tracks. To help with the production, the rapping was done by the very well respected q-tip, who has since went on to produce tracks for lots of popular musicians in the industry today. A tribe called Quest were noted as having some of the most intelligent hip hop lyrics, with almost all their songs having pro-black, and positive improvement messages. You can hear their tracks being sampled by many of the hardcore rappers that are still around today, this is how much they are respected.

Afrika Bambaataa

Afrika Bambaataa and the Zulu nation where a pioneering hip hop movement at the very early stages of hip hop culture in the late 70's early 80's. His group was more a movement for positive change and included b boy dancers and graffiti artists. When Afrika Bambaataa was rocking it, there was always a party.

AZ is an east coast rapper, who has worked extensively with NAS, and is part of the group the firm.

David Banner

David Banner is a successful solo artist who rose to prominence in the rap scene with the interest in the dirty south vibe, in the late 90's, early 2000's. Banner has a dirty grimy voice, although he has a number of hardcore sounding tracks, and plenty of filthy language, he does switch his style up with some really well written tracks including Cadillac 22's, the story of a girl killed in a car accident, and the struggle out of the depths of slavery by people in the south. You can hear him teamed up with most of the other popular south artists, and he also has a number of chopped and screwed albums, of which Banner made popular.

Bahamadia

Bahamadia first started making impact on the hip hop scene back in 94-95 when she collaborated with Guru and Gangstarr, and rapped on the Jazzmatazz track respect the architect. She is a well respected and established female artist with a big underground following.

Big Daddy Kane

Big Daddy Kane is an old school rapper and some would say one of the best all time lyrical experts. His smooth talking kept the ladies begging for more, and his hardcore ruffness and delivery kept the gangsters real. Big Daddy Kane was one of the first rap artists to effectively cross over to large hits, by using some well known soul artists beats and samples, and yet still remained very well respected. He considered himself a good rolemodel, and never rapped about guns and violence. He released a wide range of albums with the help of his DJ Mister Cee.

Biz Markie

One of the strangest rap artists to ever hit the hip hop scene. Biz markie was an original beat boxer, and turned to rapping with great ol school acclaim. He enjoyed rapping on such topics and picking boogers (picking your nose)

Bone Thugs-N-Harmony

Bone Thugs-N-Harmony are one of the most original hip hop sounding groups to hit the rap scene. You could almost describe them as gangster choirboys. They pioneered a unique sound and style, which had them singing in a harmonic quartet way. Bone thugs struggled for a number of years to gain recognition until they managed to get a break in front of Eazy e, who signed them to his record label ruthless records. One of their most popular tracks 1st of tha month, gave the artists a huge global audience, with their chilled out rap lyrics.

Loud mouthed, exaggerated, and larger than life. Busta Rhymes is one classic and wild character in the hip hop game. Originally a front rapper for the group, leaders of the new school.

Bushwick Bill

Bushwick Bill is known as one part of the hip hop group geto boys. Bushwick Bill wasn't your average rapper, in fact he was shorter than any other rapper as he was midget sized. But what he made up for in height, he more than delivered in lyrics, and performance. Originally from Jamacia, and brought up in New York he brought a smooth flow to all the Geto Boys hits.

My faves on this list are Tribe Called Quest and Busta Rhymes...and then that got me thinking of my favorite collab jam by them, The Scenario..."As I combine, all the juice from the mind..." Good hub for the music lovers!
