Top Ten Comedies: 2006

The comedy movie is considered one that will make you laugh a little or have you roaring with laughter. Some movies are very funny while others are only merely funny by tradition standards. As I searched for all comedy movies made between the year 2000 and 2009 I was overwhelmed by the sheer number of comedy movies, so I began to search by individual years. I was able to pick out ten best comedy movies for each year. My favorite types of movies in order are comedies, action, and drama's, then horror.

Some of my favorite books are by Dean Koontz and Stephen King. If you enjoy stories as much as I do then you'll most definitely enjoy this series of top ten lists.

My comedy top ten lists cover the following years:

2000

2001

2002

2003

2004

2005

2006

2007

2008

2009

Number Ten

Health Inspector

What can I say about the Health Inspector?  It is Larry the Cable Guy’s movie about…well, a health inspector.  Larry’s character must find out who is behind all the health violations at a slew of local restaurants.  The whole time he is doing this he partner, a female, that he continuously calls a dude is riding along with him.  Larry figures out who does it and wins the day.

Number Nine

John Tucker Must Die

This movie reminds us how unfair love is.  This is especially true when a guy “plays the field” with three different girls at the same time.  John Tucker is the typical high school playboy, captain of the basketball team and super smooth.  How these intelligent girls didn’t know that he was playing them is beyond me but retribution is always fun.  The girls recruit a new school member to get John to fall for her in an attempt to embarrass him.  They succeed in quite a few embarrassing moments but John usually just turns it around on them.  In the end the girl really does fall for John and him for her.  Even though this is a high school movie, and I am well beyond my high school years, I laughed continuously at the embarrassing moments.

Number Eight

My Super Ex-Girlfriend

If you like superhero movies and comedies this movie is right up your alley.  Jenny Johnson AKA G-Girl is always saving people so when Matt steps in to save her from a purse snatcher; she falls in love with him.  Matt dates Jenny not suspecting a thing until she reveals herself to him.  Matt discovers how needy G-Girl is and ends up dumping her.  G-Girl does not like this idea and ends up making his life a living hell.  Matt is desperate to end the torment and hooks up with Professor Bedlam to return Jenny to her normal self.  Matt’s new girlfriend Hannah, confront the two and both girls end up with super powers.

Number Seven

You, Me, and Dupree

Carl and Molly are getting married but Carl’s best man hasn’t showed up yet.  When Dupree finally does show up he is given the best man patch for his shirt.  After the wedding Carl and Molly start to move on with married life.  Carl finds Dupree sleeping at the local bar so Carl brings him home.  With Dupree in the newlywed’s home it causes strife for Carl and Molly.  Carl’s father in law is being a pain in the hind quarters about the last name and everything else.  Carl also believes that Dupree is moving in on his wife and strikes out at him.  Parts of the house get destroyed as Dupree gets involved with a school librarian that Molly set him up with.  Great life lessons are learned in this movie and laughter keeps the mood light.

Number Six

Night at the Museum

Out of work and desperate to make an impression on his son, Larry takes a job as night watchmen at the Museum of Natural History.  Little does he know that there is a little tablet that brings everything to life at night.  Spending the night at the museum becomes an adventure for Larry as he tries to control all the exhibits.  The Easter Island heads want some bubble gum, and the Romans and Cowboys are at war with each other.  The T-Rex comes to life and chases after Larry.  Rex just wants Larry to through the bone for him to fetch.  Theodore Roosevelt is madly in love with Sacagawea.  Larry wants to quit his job because it becomes too much for him but Teddy Roosevelt convinces him to stay on as night watchman.

Number Five

Click

Click is a funny look at what life would be like if we could fast forward through life.  It is not just about that though, this movie shows us what it would be like if we could control time and skip through all the rough times in our lives.  However, with all cool things there are side effects that are unavoidable, like missing out on life.  This movie brilliantly shows us how important the day to day of life really is, and how when you’re not looking your children grows up.  Adam Sandler did a fantastic job with this movie and shows us the funny parts of life.

Number Four

Accepted

Have you ever wanted to go to college, but fooled around too long?  Well Bartleby is the type of kid that has an enormous amount of intelligence but has wasted it by not applying soon enough and being turned down by every college he did apply to.  What is one to do?  If you’re Bartleby you’ll create your own college so you can lay low while you figure things out.  At South Harmon Institute of Technology (SHIT) everyone is accepted, but the website created works all too well.  Soon thousands of students arrive at SHIT to receive their continued education.  With no curriculum or teachers Bartleby must figure out how to educate these new students.  They are found out and people start to realize that SHIT is not a real college so now Bartleby must apply for accreditation.

Number Three

Benchwarmers

The Benchwarmers is a hilarious look at non athletic kids wanting to play baseball.  The athletic kids on the little league team doesn’t like them or what them to play on their field.  Gus, Richie, and Clark decide to play the little league team for the non athletic kids to play on the field.  Pretty soon the coaches discover what is going on and set up a series of scrimmage games for the three to play against all the teams in the area.  This movie is very funny with the talents of Rob Schneider, David Spade, and Jon Heder.  When you through in the talents of John Lovitz you get a great movie about overcoming your childhood fears.

Number Two

School for Scoundrels

What happens when you mix Billy Bob Thornton with Jon Heder?  You get a laugh riot.  This movie is all about the lack of self confidence some men sometimes suffer with.  A lot of times men feel that they are not worthy of any type of attention from women so they hide themselves in a shell.  Billy Bob Thornton teaches a class about regaining confidence in yourself.  When Dr. P sets his sites on Amanda, Roger’s love interest, Roger turns up the heat and the two face-off in an attempt to get Amanda’s attention.  This is a great competitive movie with plenty of laughs to go around.

Number One

Talladega Nights

Talladega Nights is the ballad of Ricky Bobby, a jack man with the Dennet racing team.  When their normal driver refuses to drive Ricky Bobby takes the wheel and wins third place by the end of the race.  Ricky Bobby becomes the best driver in NASCAR and fields another car with Cal Naughton Jr. driving.  Then Girard comes from formula one and wrecks Ricky’s driving career and life.  Ricky’s dad Reese who has been absent most of his life helps him remember how to drive.  This is the funniest movie for me in 2006.

Yeah, I'll give you that...Talladega Nights was the best of this year. I remember the day in which it was released on DVD, it was hard to find! For some reason everyone was sold-out of that movie, which is pretty amazing when you think about how every one usually overstocks every movie that's released.

I think it has something to do with Will Farrell's popularity and the fact that there are cool cars in the movie. Thanks for reading dohn. Hoping you're enjoying this series of hubs.
