Angel Mine - My Sweet Mother
This poem was written in honor of my beautiful mother.
She is the most amazing person I have ever known. My childhood was not perfect, but when times were difficult, my mom always made my brother and me laugh. She has lived her life with joy and purpose and she taught me to do the same.
She is compassionate and loving. She taught me the importance of giving back to others. She showed me that we can give back even when our own circumstances are dire.
She taught me how to laugh at life, to enjoy each day and realize that every day is a gift given to us. She showed me every single day that we have the power to be happy no matter what.
When I was diagnosed with Rheumatoid Arthritis 5 years ago she cried with me and then helped me pull it together and work with it. She helped me understand I should not feel guilty about being sick. It is not my fault and the only thing I can change is how I look at my life. I can sit around feeling sorry for myself. I can let the diseases win. Or I can learn from my illness, be cautious and mindful of what I do, but remember that when I have a good day, I need to go for it and have a great time.
She taught me that my daughter watches everything we do and she will emulate what she sees. I am responsible for my daughter and how her world view develops as she gets older. My mom taught me to choose happiness and in doing that, my life and my daughter's life will always be remarkable.
She always puts her arms around me when I hurt, makes me laugh when I'm sad and experiences my pain right along with me. She has always been by my side. She is my angel and I pray that I can be a great mother to my daughter, Lily. Lily and I are blessed to have my mom in our lives. I don't know what I would do without her. She is everything I strive to be each and every day.
My angel watches over me with patience, warmth and love.
Within my eyes my angel's light shines like the stars above.
My angel's hands encircle me as I sleep each night.
My angel's soft voice comforts me and keeps me safe and tight.
Each day my angel visits me and laughter fills the air.
When the world feels dark and my spirits low, my angel's always there.
My angel carries my childhood, my angel protects my soul,
My angel wipes my tears away, my angel keeps me whole.
I am grateful for my angel, I thank God every day,
My angel will always care for me and never go away.
There are some who say I'm pretty, there's beauty within me,
They don't understand the beauty is my angel that they see.
I'm a reflection of my angel. My angel's like no other.
My angel's also a reflection of me. She's my beautiful, loving mother.
