Grandma Sunshine and her Chickies
Being a grandparent...
Once upon a time I listened as friends shared their stories with me about their grandchildren. I could hear the excitement in their voice.
I noticed the twinkle in their eyes. I felt the pride and admiration coming from their heart.
Still to me, being a grandparent was no big deal. My thoughts were saying they were just the offspring of their offspring.
What's the big deal about being a granny? To me, that just confirmed I was old. Wow, was I in for a surprise!
My attitude was soon to change...
On Oct. 25th, 2006 with the sounds of her first cry my life was forever changed for the better.
It was at this moment that I can now hear my own excitement as I jumped up and down in the hospital corridor.
I noticed my own twinkle when I glanced in the mirror. I felt my own heart pounding with a love that I didn't know existed.
My granddaughter Faith entered the world and she made sure everyone knew it. Her lungs were strong! I beamed with pride. She is the sunshine of my life.
I never in a million years could have imagined that I could possible love someone as much as I do her.
I cherish and adore my two daughters, who are in their 20's and I would give my life for them! I am very proud of the beautiful women they have become. I wouldn't change a thing about my chickies.
The feelings one experiences between motherhood and grand-motherhood are totally different.
One could never truly explain the difference unless they have experienced it firsthand. I now realize that.
As I mentioned previously I couldn't understand when my friends were ecstatic about their grandchildren.
Yet, I knew I anticipated the day that I would have my own grand-bundles of joy to love and adore.
I just never expected the emotions and elation that came along with the moment.
I often think that it would be amazing if those feelings came in pill form. Oh, the amount of elation on our universe would spill out into another realm!
Unique types of love...
In my opinion...the love I have for my daughters is a motherly love. The love I have for Faith is a grandmotherly love.
To me there is a difference and there are no words for it, you just have to feel it. I could go on and on trying to explain it, but that's not possible.
A pleasant difference between being a mother and grandmother is that grandchildren make you young again.
You aren't the disciplinarian. You are the playmate. You are happy to once again play hopscotch, jump rope and musical chairs. You are also thankful when you don't hurt yourself while doing so.
Grand Parents are Grand People!
Faith is growing up quickly. I protect her like a grandma bear would protect her cubs. She's my little buddy. My daughters are my best friends. My four "chickies" are a blessing in my life. Chickies is the name that I gave to our circle of females. We have also added honoree chickies to our circle.
I am very thankful for the gifts that I have been blessed with. My life wouldn't have been complete without them.
I hope all grandparents continue to make memorable memories with their grandchildren.
Whether you read stories, bake cookies or dance around the kitchen to the latest Top 40 song...it's the laughter and the memories that matter most. Be sure and capture those moments with lots of photos and video!
Allow your grandchildren to open your eyes to what you might be missing out on. Slow down and savor the time you spend with them. Allow them to teach you something that you might have forgotten or simply don't know. You might be surprised at what you could learn.
I'm looking forward to hearing your grandparent stories. Please share with us in the comment section what makes being a grandmother or grandfather so special. In the meanwhile enjoy your precious gifts.

Sisters - Best friends forever
Faith has a little sister to grow old with. I have another granddaughter to spoil. Carissa has another daughter to love. Michelle has yet another niece to cherish.
Lily joined our family on March 1st, 2013 at 10:48 a.m. Mother and daughter are doing fantastic. Lovely Lily (as I have been calling her, for some reason) is a blessing to our family.
We are all tickled pink with excitement. We anticipate watching her grow up and the many antics she will attempt.
I am excited about the interesting interactions between the sisters. Faith is a loving person with a giving heart. I'm sure she'll teach Lily some tricks of the trade!
Her middle name Elle is to represent the women in her life... Her grandmothers...Linda, Lisa, Luz and her Aunt Lauren all begin with the letter L ... Elle. Her Aunt Michelle ends in Elle. Very creative of my son-in-law.
Faith, Lily and my four step-grandchildren make Sunshine smile. A 6-pack of grandkids is a gift that I appreciate.
Once again, let the fun begin!
Faith and Lily
The fun has begun!
I am thankful to my daughters and granddaughters for all the love they have brought into my life. I am grateful for all they have taught me. I've learned that no matter how old we are, we are never too old to learn something new.
They have given me strength I didn't know I had. They have inspired me to be a better person. They have challenged me. Whether it's with hopscotch, jump rope, push-ups, planks, prank phone calls...we are never too old to have fun!

A shout-out to girls and their favorite things!
Being annoying doesn't make us mean. Being annoying is entertaining. We love our children and grandchildren and would never want to embarass them. OK, yes we would. At least I would and have. In a loving way of course...
Have you ever received a letter from your Homeowners Association? The letter that notifies you that your lawn isn't green enough or that you left a tricycle on the porch? I have and I thought I'd write them a letter...
