Cast of Characters

Dora Marquez (Dora the Explorer): Dora is a young hispanic girl who goes on adventures with many creatures, most often with her friend Boots the Monkey.

Boots the Monkey: Boots is Dora's nearly constant companion on the show. He accompanies Dora on most adventures. If he is not accompanying her, She is often trying to meet or retrieve him.

Swiper the Fox: Swiper attempts to take things from other characters on the show. He can be defeated if the phrase "Swiper, no swiping" is repeated three times. If he succeeds, he says, "You'll never find your [stolen item] now!"

Benny the Bull: Benny the Bull is a friend of Dora. He is overweight and this can cause him to get into situations like getting stuck in a wall or making loud noises when he falls down.

Isa the Iguana: Isa is another friend of Dora. She is a gardener and sometimes helps as a guide through parts of the journey.

Tico the Squirrel: Tico only speaks Spanish and is a friend of Boots (although Boots speaks very limited Spanish). He also drives vehicles, namely his yellow car.

Map: Map tells Dora how to get to where she wants to go. He has his own theme song and lives inside Backpack.

Backpack: She is Dora's backpack, always filled with something Dora will need on the journey, as well as other miscellany.

Fiesta Trio: Three bugs make up the Fiesta Trio. They provide music for various portions of each episode.

Episode Structure

The structure of the show is interactive, often breaking the "fourth wall" and interacting with viewers. Nearly all episodes follow the same general structure.

  1. Introduction of characters
  2. A problem or situation is presented that gives Dora some place she needs to go or task she needs to accomplish.
  3. Dora checks the map to see which way to go. The map gives her three locations, the third being the destination.
  4. Dora sings the "Where are we going?" song as she proceeds to each location.
  5. At each location, an obstacle is overcome.
  6. When the task is completed, Dora and friends sing "We did it."
  7. Dora asks viewers what their favorite part of the episode was. She (and usually Boots) tell viewers what their favorite part was.

At some point during each episode, each of the following things happen at least once:

  1. Dora checks the map.
  2. Dora accesses backpack.
  3. Dora encounters Swiper.
