Family Bonding At Busay Waterfalls
As a writer, I keep on thinking and looking something to write about things and places that fascinate me. Nature fascinates me most. Well, not everybody loves to stroll along lakes surrounded by nature listening to the birds singing.
I have been thinking of writing something about my hometown. Something that gives me a 'WOW' effect. Something that I can proudly recommend and share to my friends and to my readers. I was asking my cousin and my nephew if there is a beautiful place nearby for me to visit before I leave for Germany. Yes, there is! BUSAY WATERFALLS, "just right on our doorsteps".
Busay Waterfalls is located in the barrio of Macalang, Buenavista, Agusan del Norte. It is on the island of Mindanao, Philippines. Busay Waterfalls is around half an hour drive with a motorcycle (with sidecar) to Macalang and around half an hour strolling in the middle of the forest from the town of Buenavista. If you drive with your car, then it will be a shorter drive than commuting with a motorcycle.

The Day Out
Since it rained almost everyday, I kept on waiting for the right sunny moment. So, I had to be spontaneous. I only had to say to my brother "let's go". The plan was agreed on a Friday evening at 8 pm for the next day out at 9 in the morning, Saturday.
We were lucky. It was a bright sunny day with 28°C. We were 8 adults, 3 children and Angus, our Cavalier King Charles Spaniel dog. We took a big motorcycle with sidecar for the fare of 240 Pesos back and forth. It was a bargain as the driver lives in Macalang.
The drive to Macalang was not only an adventure for us but also for the kids and Angus. The sound of the motorcycle was loud that Angus kept on jumping off my lap. Besides that, he was restless putting his head out of the window looking at the passing rice fields scenery.
We passed through the barrio of Macalang and turned left until the end of our drive as we had to walk through small lakes before we arrived to Busay Waterfalls. The driver advised us not to be loud as we might disturb the "not like ours" people who might be living in the forest and at Busay Waterfalls.
We were strolling under the heat of the sun, in the middle of the forest full of coconut trees, bamboos, bananas, ferns, herbs, wild exotic flowers while walking through lakes with ankle deep clear water. The lake water gave us coolness to our heated body. There were small and big stones that we had to watch our movements so as not to fall down to the water. We heard different sounds of the birds.
It was fascinating! Me in the middle of a small jungle, strolling through lakes with my relatives and Angus. I saw the beauty of this undeveloped nature. So quiet!
Then, we arrived at Busay Waterfalls. I was gobsmacked! With an open mouth I saw a few small children up above the waterfalls preparing to jump. There were some teenager swimming under the waterfalls. On the sides of the waterfalls were some children climbing with their bare hands reaching the peak.
As I recovered from my astonishment, I went to my siblings and their respective families who were looking for a shadowed place for us to sit. My nephews did not wait for too long. They swam immediately in the cold water while thinking if they should climb as well to the peak and jump into the water. My young nieces were enjoying their swim while Angus was busy snipping around without a leash. Some of us were just siting and enjoying the beauty of the nature. Me, on my part was busy taking photos as a remembrance of our family bonding. It was a very unforgetable lovely day out in an undeveloped beautiful nature.

Under the heat of the sun
I sit on the white big rock
Before me waterfalls splashing
I look around
I am alone
What a place!
To be in peace.
What a daydream! I never thought I would be dreaming like this again. The last time I had my daydream was, when I was in Carne Beach ("my private beach"), Belmullet, Ireland. I could imagine myself living in a nipa made house, in the middle of the forest with my beautiful garden full of exotic wild orchids.
The day was very relaxing. Time just flew so fast that we packed our things and strolled back through lakes until we reached the place where our motorcycle driver was waiting for us. Adieu Busay Waterfalls!!! Til we meet again....
