Five Sisters Are We

There are five sisters in my family

Five sisters oh my

I know that they love me

And I'll always love them

No matter what changes may come our way

We seem to always be there for each other

What else can I say?

What else can I say about blood that we share?

We may look alike in so many ways

But the differences are there in just about everything we say

Everything we say may be a contradiction at times

But we have strong genes so its hard to give in

Its hard to give in when we are so damned sure we are right

It brings us to tears, man we cant even sleep at night

When there’s strife among sisters, life isn’t the same

I guess we just feel deep down all the pain

All the pain that we cause one another and sometimes never let up

We have all been guilty of it so lets own up

Its best to say I’m sorry and let the incident go

Its hard at times though when we feel we are right

This just causes more problems and we cannot see the light

The light I am speaking of is at that proverbial tunnel

Where everything is okay and help is on its way

Where there will be no more arguments, hurt feelings and fights

I have seen the tunnel at times in my life

I’m glad that its there for moments of strife

But surely we all have to look within

And give each other a break, because we all have sin

The sins of our fathers and mothers apparent

Get in the way of our thinking and pride

I guess what I am trying to say is that we are all different people

Five sisters five sisters what was God thinking

I guess it had to be that its what our family needed

Because my sisters are the glue that keeps us together

We may try to leave one another and stay out of their life

But the blood that runs through our veins will cut like a knife

And remind us that once and for all

We are stuck together for life and that is our call

There are four sisters

Then my sisters have me

Like it or don’t like it whatever you see

But as we get older we should put bad feelings aside

And be the best friends that God intended for us to be.

LJ...I thought it was a really honest piece that probably speaks volumes between you and your sisters. My wife comes from a family of three girls and they are sisters to the end, thick or thin so I could identify with your reasoning. Your sisters should be proud! WB

Very good blood is thicker than water. for sure. some of us don't realize how important it is for a family to support each other no matter what. Some people will take sides with a stranger rather their own, and they will be the first to help a stranger instead of there own family. I do believe that is very sad. I myself will always have my sisters back no matter what. Love to all my sisters.

Wayne thanks for reading my hub. I guess sisters are sisters everywhere, I guess its the way God made us. Cheers.

@rose56 I love the way you look at things. Thanks for always having my back. Cheers

You are truly blessed not only to have sisters, but five of them! I am a bit jealous having only a few sister's in law. Your moving poetry expresses the ups and downs of sisterhood so well I can only imagine what life would be like to have such a challenging gift of fate.

Lady Jane a beautiful tribute - blood is thicker than water indeed and I can only imagine all the experiences growing up full of contradictions and love as you point out. I come from one of three brothers and have 4 nephews and two sons so I know a bit of what you feel - except we are all boys! :) Once again a lovely poem.

If I may, please allow me to say this: My mother is one of seven sisters. Ever since I can remember they were as thick as thieves, yet they would argue between themselves and they would divide themselves into groups to fight the sisters formed in different groups and they would make up and then start all over again. My mother is now 89 (even now she insists that it should be 88, as she was born in a November and therefore so close to a new year, it should not count - as if it would make any kind of difference) and she has just one remaining sister left. They live in different cities and they still argue by telephone, but every chance they get, they have themselves driven to other city for a visit and cry together about their sisters who have left and gossip and….. fight!

It doesn’t matter who is right or wrong. Let your opposing sister win an argument without challenging her. It won’t kill you, believe me :-))))

Very truthful and insightful poem. Sisters are a complex relationship totally different from brothers. Relationships with sisters are usually immersed in lots of conflict and lots of love. It's the nature of the beast.

Lady Jane, being present at the sight of a disagreement this really is amazing as testament to stay together through it all. It's the one thing that is missing between the siblings of my father, Peace,50

@billyaustindillon thanks for reading and Im glad you enjoyed the poem. Yes there are many conflicts between my sisters but I think it is because we are so damn the same much to everyones shagrin but we love each other just the same and yea girls are so different than boys. Cheers.

@MickyDee thanks for visiting good to see you and glad you enjoyed my poem. Cheers.

@GojiJuice wow 5 brothers. We have 2 brothers and that is bad enough. Im sure they have much to say about their 5 sisters. Cheers.

@DeGreek thanks for visiting, your story is too funny and it does remind me of my sisters because if two of us have a fight or conflict everyone tries to get the other sisters on their side and sometimes it can be a mess but we always manage to pull together. The only thing is it seems like it gets worse as we get older, go figure. Cheers.

@breakfastpop you are soooooo right I should have titled this poem "Immersed in conflict are we" LOL. Cheers.

@50 thanks for reading and Im sorry that this part is missing from your fathers side. My sisters are a different breed and they are the best anyone could have. Cheers.

Ladyjane1 - very nice hub....this is so true about all of us. As the eldest in our family sometimes things get a bit crazy trying to do the right thing....but love beats all! Cheers sis.

My mom is one of 3 sisters and she hasn't spoke to the other two in over 20 years, for reasons she probably can't even remember. One has since passed away and you'd think she'd learn the lesson and not want to run the risk of the other one dying without ever speaking to her again.

Absolutely excellent poem about you and your sisters. It is very inspired and special. It is wonderful that you have this special relationship with them.

@whidbeywriter you are so right thanks for reading. Cheers and love.

@loriamoore thanks for reading. I cant imagine that my sisters could do anything to me where I wouldn't speak to them for 20 years. Life is too short and 20 years is too much lost time. That's sad. Cheers.

Pamela99 thanks for reading Im glad you enjoyed the poem. We do have a special relationship but sometimes I think people looking in at us may think that we are nuts at times. Cheers.

What a beautiful tribute to your siblings. What an endless love brought about by God more than blood. I cherish moments like this, when human beings give themselves out so freely for Love´s sake. Rated up and beautiful!

I am from a family of five --- two sisters, two brothers. Two years ago my older sister died, and I still have not gotten over her death. We often fought, but we were very close. Therefore, i can identify with your poem.

I am from a family of five sisters. I love them equally, however they don't always share the same feelings amongst them as sisterly love can have it's ups and downs for sure. I have seen their anguish at times, but they do finally come around and get back on track of loving each other through thick and thin. There little brother just stands on the sidelines with a grin and say "I told you so" sisterly love how wonderful.

Sounds very much like the relationship my mother and her 3 sisters have. They are all in their high seventies now (my godmother and aunt is 91) and they live life like teenagers, laughing at their ailments and so close to each other...Their bond is an extremely strong one. It is so refreshing to see.
