New Baby Supply Checklist

I remember when I was pregnant with my first child. I didn't have any clue about the kinds of things I needed to get. Toys R' Us had this baby checklist for new babies. It came in very handy. However, many years later when I was pregnant with my second, I couldn't find a checklist anywhere. I looked online, but couldn't find a whole list of all the supplies I would need. Now, with experience after having 3 babies, I decided to create my own checklist of what I believe is essential for a newborn. I hope I have not forgotten anything, and I hope this helps all you new moms- and dads-to-be. I have the list typed out below, but also in a prettier picture format that you can choose to print instead. I should also note that this list is only for newborn items; not for items that come later.

  • Baby monitor
  • Nightlight
  • Waterproof crib mattress pad
  • Fitted sheets
  • Receiving blankets
  • Travel system
  • Diaper bag
  • Baby carrier/sling
  • Mesh laundry bag
  • Dreft *In my experience, Dreft does not really do a good job of cleaning the clothes. If you still want to use it, I recommend washing very dirty clothes in a regular detergent first, and then rewashing in Dreft.
  • Nasal aspirator *If you deliver at a hospital, you will most likely get one from there, and you won't find a better one in stores.
  • Rectal thermometer
  • Gas drops and/or Gripe Water
  • Diaper rash cream
  • Crib
  • Crib mattress
  • Bassinet
  • Changing table
  • Rocker or Glider w/ottoman
  • Dresser
  • Playard
  • Wrist rattles
  • Stuffed animals
  • Baby gym
  • Crib mobile
  • Crib mirror
Other optional items:
  • Bouncy seat that vibrates
  • Swing
  • Jogging stroller
  • Pacifiers

  • 10 Onesies
  • 6 Long-sleeved t-shirts
  • 6 Pairs of Socks
  • 8 Pajamas (Sleep 'n Plays)
  • 2 Hats/caps
  • No-scratch mittens
  • Diapers
  • Baby wipes
  • Diaper pail
  • 3 - 4 (4-oz) Bottles
  • 3 - 4 (8-oz+) Bottles
  • 4 slow-flow nipples
  • 4 medium-flow nipples
  • 1 Bottle cleaning brush
  • Bottle steam sterilizer
  • Bibs
  • Burp cloths
  • Electric Breastpump
  • Breastmilk storage bags and/or containers
  • Nursing pads (disposable or washable)
  • Nursing bras
  • Nipple cream (for sore nipples)
  • Wrap or cover for public feeding *A large baby blanket can work
  • Bathtub
  • Baby washcloths
  • Hooded towels
  • Baby shampoo
  • Baby soap
  • Disposable washcloths

I still stand by my baby checklist. I think the Walmart one is good, but overkill. Way too much stuff for a newborn. I think it's better to stick to the essentials.

It is essential that you have everything ready in time for baby's arrival. Have all of the things you need ready for when the day comes. Check out to be sure you have everything on the list. Check off the things you do have and stock up on the things you don't.
