No more pains

My heart broke into pieces and almost fell into my stomach when i heard about the tragic news, this is something overlooked by the Society at large and especially by those who are meant to protect the younger ones, our loved ones always stay far away from their responsibilities so recalling the troubled life of my dear friend and his tragic end sends tears into my system but drops of blood touches the earth from my eyes.

Damion, a young promising boy was molested by his own Uncle at a tender age and to worsen the situation was Rev Father Emmanuel to whom he sought refuge.

No one believed him when he made the allegations about what this so called Rev Father did to him, his Mother instead of supporting her innocent son stood in the public and defended her brother and a Rev. Father she barely knew and her defense made everyone consider Dammy as we fondly called him an outcast and a liar. No one cared to listen to him, to them, he made up the story about the Rev Father and the manner in which he was treated turned him into a troubled young boy.

He became an aggressive person after being flogged naked in the public and with no good reason other that what she considered a family shame, she sent her own child, (a son she carried in her own womb for nine months, a child she bore pains to bring into the world) out from the house.

Going to school was out of the question and no one cared about this innocent young boy so he dropped out from school and with no other purpose in life, took refuge in the street.

I could recall the first time i saw him after that day he was humiliated though it was the last time i saw him too but he looked so weak and pale,he looked confused and worried but there was nothing much i could do to help him.

I believed him and i believe all that he said about the Rev Father but the elders do not want to listen, my parents don't want to see me or my siblings around him but that did not stopped me that day from ushering him into our family house, gave him food and my cloth to change the dirty one he had.

During our conversation, he told me that there was no day he did not think about his late Dad but we stopped our conversation when my parents entered into the compound then he left through the back door and that was the last time i ever saw him.

I later heard couple of years later that he joined a gang of peak porkers and also began using hard drugs. By the age of 24, he has served times for robbery twice.

The only help he got after being released from jail was from what he got as a street beggar.

He made several attempts to kill himself but wouldn't die then one day he set himself on fire but was rescued by some passerby  who saw him on flames

He was later rushed to the hospital because of the burns he sustained and was diagnosed of HIV during the cause of treatment.

I learned about all this whole predicament through another close friend of ours.

After four months of battling with second degree burns and the deadly virus, he gave up the ghost but with a final word.

"NO MORE PAINS".

As you are reading this right now,i wish to let you know that there are so many other Damion(s) out there crying for help but no one seems to listen, the authorities are not paying attention and the worst of it is Parents.

Parents often do not believe their children when they complain about being molested simply because 7 out of ever 10 offender is well known to the child and might be a close family friend or even a relative but until other parent's realize just like Dammy's mother that the child was not laying then the self blame begin

And "HAD I KNOWN" comes at a time when the innocent has been destroyed.

This mother should have not been allowed to beat her son. Shame on her! how horrible. Poor young man!

So sad and not a unique story, which makes it even more sad. This world can be a very wicked place and dangerous for innocent children. It breaks my heart.

l cannot print the things l would like to happen to child molesters.

bayoulady, like i always not every woman can be a mother,of course giving birth to a child shows that a woman is fertile but it takes further step to be a MOTHER,i mean a SWEET MOTHER.

Dim,it is so sad and like you said, hard to put what the penalty would be for child molesters but believe me, if those in charge take it up as a responsibility, there will be no more child offender...They don't care about us Dim but thank you so mush for your support.

Sa`ge, it takes a strong will to be a good parent but if all should be like you, children will no longer suffer. Thanks for coming over.

fucsia,if you have to imagine this then Africa has the greatest number of this fate in children.

Hey! Dad, thanks for your love Micky Dee the great i am your treasure and thank you so much because you pulled me up when i was down.

Its sad - may his soul RIP. I believe all parents should have a bond with their children and when they report such things, take the kids seriously.

This situ happens a lot with women who are divorced and marry again. The Step Father pounces on the poor teen girls. (some of them) Its painful that the mothers don't believe or turn a blind eye.

Take Care.

I have written about these issues but I can never seem to put the words I feel in my heart down in written form as well as you have. Thanks for speaking out. Silence will always hide the violence. Though many have to suffer now, some day their voices will be heard loud and clear. Thank you for your contribution.

Parent's denial has caused many a sexually abused child to turn the pain they feel inward. I know of where I speak as a survivor of incest.
