Nothing Like a Little Sister
I was 3 years old when my little sister was born. She was born in April of 1966 and yes that makes me 46, wow where did all the time go? When my little sister was born she was a beautiful child, cute as a button you might say. Since she was the baby of the family and there were 7 of us, she was as spoiled by my dad as a little girl can get. We didn’t mind we couldn’t blame him. She adored my father and he adored her.
When we got older and I was a teen full of spit and vinegar, she was always trying to hang around me and I didn’t want the little runt around. I feel bad for that now, I didn’t know that she looked up to me; kids don’t know that at that age. If I could do it all again though I would have proudly let her hang out with me wherever I went, since she was pretty good at keeping secrets and still is I might add.
A sister is a little bit of childhood that can never be lost.
~Marion C. Garretty
We used to stay up at all hours of the night and she would listen to everything I said about my wishes and hopes and dreams. She would hang on every word. No one listens to me like that now, I guess I didn’t appreciate her when I should have.
Now that I think of it I think she must have had the patience of a saint to have to listen to all the boys that I had crushes on and the breakups that I endured. But she was there.
Now that we are older she is still there to go to when I am having a bad day or just need to talk to someone since she seems to understand everything that I have gone through and go through still. She is one of those people that are always there for you when you need them, always has a helping hand and gives great moral support.
You know they say that blood is thicker than water and that is right but it goes even deeper than that, there is an unspoken spiritual awareness between sisters and I think that it’s the same way with all my sisters. My brothers are different at least mine were. I guess in our family our sisters are what keeps our family together and whenever we see one of us trying to unglue themselves, we all latch on to each other and wont let go. That is what makes our sisterhood special and we are therefore forever bonded like that.
Gloria listened to me hours on end singing this song and never complained. This one is for you Gloria
A Poem For My Little Sister
From as far back as I can remember you have always been there
There have been many laughs and unfortunately many tears as well
We have had some fights but not very many
I will always love you
There are guys that come and go
and friends that may stab you in the back
But sisters are different they stick around
Even if you piss them off
You are someone I can count on
Especially when you know I’m wrong
Even when you know I’m right
You are there
I don’t have to tell you when I am sad
You always have a sixth sense about that
You always know when I am mad
That seems to have been a gift
I do love you for always being there when I need you
Even at the most inopportune times
You are my little sister
My blood
My hero
My friend
