If you have a photographic memory, what do you do to forget the bad memories?
Overload your brain with new wonderful memories so the bad ones get buried.
Folks with photographic memories have to be careful about what they allow themselves to see, hear, even smell, because they cannot forget, Period. A teacher I knew would have his wife preview everything and anything that might come his way so he doesn't take in input that is obscene or perverse.
Read the "word of God," and see things the ways God sees things. And some things we have to forget about.
One way that could be given a go, is to actually visualize that image consciously (if you would reasonably comfortable doing so) and change the negative narrative associated with it to a progressively positive one.
Like desensitization.
Not an easy process at first, but it is like confronting fears. It gets easier as time goes on.
I too have a photographic memory, and there are some haunting things I have observed directly in the past that I have employed this method for.
Some challenging visual memories can need the assistance of someone 'qualified' to assist a desensitizing process.
When desensitization has been achieved, these troubling visual memories can be 'put in a mental box' (a control box) where you are in control of where and when such a memory will be noted again and you have positive control of how it affects you in the future.
Hope that all made sense
I am no expert but I am very visually oriented. I tend to write narratives through images in my head much like a movie. If you have a photographic memory and experience something bad or negative you cannot just toss the photo in the trash...the brain holds on to everything good and bad. As yours cycles through the miasma of "stuff" rattling around your head the ugly photo will pop to the forefront every now and then. Perhaps the only way to get around the bad feelings associated with these I would advise devoting your time and energy to other thoughts instead. It may take some concentrated effort at first but if you can find a memory that makes you feel good you can "wallow" in it instead. Over time you may lessen the impact of the bad memory in favor of the good one. If it is a question of something you did to another or something another did to you you must learn to forgive yourself and give back any feelings of responsibility. You must also forgive the one who did you dirty or apologize to the one you hurt. It took me a long time to realize that I must also forgive myself. Hope this helps or at least makes sense.
These answers are fantastic Thanks so much WhAt wisdom is behind these words I believe that it requires a lot of intensive work to forget the bad.
