Can you look into yourself and find your ancestors?

what bits and pieces of personality, physical characteristics, etc do we share with our ancestors? Can you look into yourself, your behaviors,  your physical attributes and find the keys that unlock your past?

I have found that one of my great grandfathers had an awful lot of jobs and moved his family around a lot before finally settling down and becoming a master butcher.  Prior to that he had been a sailor, a police fireman, a tram driver and a corn factor.  I tend to get bored by my jobs too and change them.  Could be following in his footsteps!

I love the outdoors and there are places in particular--cold, snowy, and mountainous--to which I always get the strange feeling that I have been there before. And I know I haven't personally, it is more like something in my blood has. So, I really suspect that my ancestors where mountainmen. My father's family was from Poland, so that is entirely possible.

Absolutely. My paternal grandfather was a musician, actor and photographer - yet my father (due to other issues - my grandfather was also a pretty nasty character) never told me. I always wondered where I got my love of art, music and writing. I was given some sketches my grandfather drew along with some history by an aunt after my dad passed away. I also have a lot of "viking" dna on both sides of the family and my boss tells me that I am a "viking" with respect to projects: hunt it down, kill it, cook it, clean up the mess and make something out of the hide." (I try to see it as a compliment.
I find it fascinating to study family histories and see little bits of myself, my husband and my children in our ancestors.
