At what age do you teach a child proper body part names?

Unsure what to do with my girl (15mths). I hear some say never use baby words but I have also never heard of someone telling their child to wipe their natal cleft. So what is the right way. I have to teach her something soon because she currently is calling my breast balls and while that is funny now at home it won;t be as she gets older.

I am all for anatomically correct names from the get go. My kids have always heard penis and vagina and boobs/breasts and think it is completely normal (they are now 4 and 20 months) I think you can also use nicknames like willy etc when you want to but as long as they know the actual name that's the main thing. In my opinion it is good for kids to learn science early and anatomy is a science!

With my 21 month old son I use the correct name for his body parts-which includes penis. He also knows that mom has breasts whereas he only has nipples. I have not used the word vagina around him, and I find that I am comfortable teaching him the name of his body parts, but I don't feel as comfortable teaching him mine. I hope this changes as he gets older. I do use the word peepee at times because I want him to associate going peepee on the big boy toilet.

We taught our kids the correct body part names from the time they were born. We didn't make up silly words for ears, eyes, and nose but instead just told them the correct word for each part of their wonderful body!

When they are old enough to understand what you are saying. They are names of body parts, not pornography. They should know the proper words for them though. Telling them to wipe their bottom works. You don't need to get that technical. They can learn what the natal cleft is in High School science class.

I think it all depends on the child's maturity.  My son is 4 now & has been asking what they are and I've told him.  I also told him that we only talk about it at home & he doesn't need to run around telling or showing everyone his privates.  Now he doesn't say anything about them & is totally fine.

What a difficult question! I think there's no age limit. It depends on the girl/boy. I think if a child wish to learn something, age doesn't matter. But, if I have to say any age, I think little children learn easier. As soon as a child learn to talk, you can teach him/her anyhting to repeat it, and this is the way they learn. I hope it helps!
