What to do with a child who has outgrown the crib but not ready for regular bed?

My daughter is 17 mths and has figured out how to climb out of her crib. We are worried she will hurt herself. However she is not mentally ready for a toddler bed. How do we ensure her safety?

Smarter/sneaky little ones they are. Somehow my daughter would wonder to my bed at three am, tugging me, "Mommy, I want to sleep with you." Took three nights to keep her in her own bed.

My daughter refused to sleep with us since she was born. She would scream until we put her to bed. Now at three she comes in our room if she cannot sleep then when she is ready to sleep she goes in her own room. Kids are different.
